I stayed at the table for 20 minutes before mom came to tell me She was going to run some errands. After she left, I went into my room to get ready. I had decided to go to the park. It was a really nice day to play basketball. I pulled out a black tank top that had BEAST written across the front in big, blue letters, threw on some orange and black gym shorts, grabbed my basketball and headed out the door. I sent my friend Ethan a message. "Hey do you want to come play basketball? I'll be at the park in the usual court.", I asked. I didn't live very far from the park so it wasn't a very long walk. Almost nobody was there when I finally arrived. Just a few kids on the playground and some guy running. I went into my usual court and took a few practice shots. I missed almost all of them.
"Looks like somebody needs practice.", Ethan laughed. I turned around and smiled a little.
"Yeahhh I just have a lot on my mind right now.", I answered. He nodded and clamped a hand down on my shoulder.
"I'm guessing this game is a way to get your mind off of Alex?", he asked. I looked down and nodded. He patted my back.
"Let's get started then.", he stated. We played about 3 games before we took a break. I had lost every single game by a long shot. "So what's all on your mind dud?", he asked. I sighed loudly and ran a hand through my sweat soaked hair.
"I messed up. Elizabeth kissed me and Alex saw.", I told him. He looked confused. "Elizabeth has been harassing Alex for a while now. They absolutely hate each other. I made sure Alex knew I hated Elizabeth too. But after she saw us kiss, she felt lied to. Now she hates me. The weird thing is she was acting really off before that though. She started acting weird after I talked to her during lunch.", I explained.
"Did you call her something that maybe she took wrong?", he questioned. I thought about it for a few minutes.
"No I only called her my friend.", I told him. He started laughing. The more he laughed the angrier I got.
"What the hell is so funny?", I asked. He held his hand up and continued laughing. I sat in annoyed silence until he finally caught his breath.
"Dude she obviously likes you. You calling her your friend made her feel unwanted.", he stated. I stared at him in shock. That's impossible! Why would a girl like her like a guy like me?
"Do you really think so?", I whispered. I was hoping it was true. He smiled at me and nodded. I could only smile as I stared at the floor. Then I heard one of the most beautiful sounds ever. I looked up and saw Alex. She was sitting on the ground with a full grown Rottweiler laying on her lap.
"Zeus you're such a big baby!", I heard her giggle. She scratched the dog's head. I stood up to go to her. Then I saw Jeremy. He was walking over to them with a smile on his face. Anger and jealousy swirled through me.
"Calm down. Don't go over there. Maybe they're just hanging out as friends?", Ethan said as he grabbed my arm. I was going to stay put. Until I saw Jeremy sit on the bench next to where Alex was and pat her head. I ripped my arm out of Ethan's grip and made my way towards them. I could hear Ethan yelling behind me but I ignored him. Zeus started growling at me as I got closer. I was only a few feet away when Jeremy finally noticed me. He stood up and walked in front of Alex. Alex noticed and stared at him with a confused expression. Then she noticed me. Her eyes went wide and she grabbed onto Zeus' collar. Zeus stood up and so did Alex.
"So I'm guessing you two are back together? That's nice. I guess I was wrong when I thought you liked me.", I mumbled.
"It's not what you thi-"
"Shut the hell up Jeremy.", I growled.
"Please just listen Zeke.", Alex pleaded.
"No I don't want to hear it! I don't want to hear anymore of your lies! I was so stupid to think you'd like me! Maybe we shouldn't be friends anymore! Maybe-"
"Will you stop and listen to me! How could you not notice that I do love you! Jeremy is gay! He likes men! He's like a brother to me! Him and his mom take care of me! They treat me like I'm a part of the family! There is nothing going on between us!", she yelled as tears fell from her eyes. Alex then shoved Zeus' collar into Jeremy's hand before she ran off. I stood there in shock. I didn't know what to say. I never thought she'd like me. Much less love me! I noticed Jeremy angrily staring at me.
"Are you happy now? You hurt her! She was so afraid to tell you because she thought it would ruin your friendship. Now look at her! She's so scared and hurt that she ran off crying!", he yelled.
"I-I'm sorry! I didn't know. I had no idea....", I whispered as I started to cry. His eyes softened as he put a hand on my shoulder.
"Text her. Call her. Do both. Just get a hold of her and invite her over. Then tell her how you feel. Let it all out. Set up something romantic and get all of her favorite things. Do you need me to tell you her favorite things?", he questioned. I shook my head and thanked him. Then I ran off to the nearest store. It was a small town grocery store. It still had everything I needed though. I got her a beautiful rose, a bag of taffy and a cute little stuffed bear. After purchasing them, I ran home and started setting everything up. When I finished I tried calling her but she wouldn't pick up. So I just sent her numerous texts begging her to come over .
