17: Good News and Lies

A month passed uneventfully. Maki has learned some more songs, mostly by Chopin because Kazama loved Chopin.

Fall was right around the corner, and with it, the arrival of winter was coming.

"Brr, it has gotten quite chilly so soon," Maki complained.

"It's not that cold. It's only 14° Celsius. (i.e. 57° Farenheit. I may be wrong.)" Kazama said.

"Well it's cold to me!" Maki pouted. She had some news to tell him, but she wanted him to suffer. "Hey, Kazama. I want to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"I'm not going to tell you yet. It's about what I was doing in my room without you last night." She grinned, hoping to torment him awhile.

(A/N there is a difference between a while and awhile. A while is a noun that means exactly what you think it means, whereas awhile is actually an adverb meaning "for a while." Now you know.)

"Come on, tell me." Now Kazama was the one pouting.

"Nope, you'll receive so such special treatment this time. I want to tell it to everyone all at once."

Kazama sighed. "Why must you torment me?"

Maki grinned and stuck her tongue out. "Because I felt like it." She laughed.

"¡Hola, Kazama y Maki!" It was the voice of a female, not a male. If it wasn't Mateo, who was it?

"Kamino?!" Maki exclaimed.

"Sí, es yo. Por cerca de un mes, Mateo ha enseñado español." She stood triumphantly in front of then.

"First off, English please? Secondly, you don't have to look so dramatic."

"Just a bit of extra flair to my performance."

"¡Fue buenísimo, Kamino! ¡Fuiste tan hermosa!" (That was wonderful, Kamino! You were so beautiful!) He put so much drama into his performance in front of her. It seemed like a normal conversation in terms of their words, but with this drama, it was a train wreck.

[imagine Tsukiyama saying that. That's the level of drama projected by them right now]

"Why thank you very much, Mateo. I'm glad you liked my performance." She curtsied in front of him to show her appreciation.

"Can you just tell me what you said earlier, Kamino?" Maki said, having enough of what was happening in front of them. She didn't know if she should laugh or walk away like she didn't know them.

"Oh, yeah, I said that he has been teaching me Spanish for close to a month."

"She's quite a fast learner. She has learned in a month what it would take someone almost two years to learn in a normal classroom."

"Kind of like you with piano, Maki," Kazama said. "Either way, we should get going."

"¡Vamos, mi estudiante! ¡Es tiempo para aprender!" (Let's go, my student! It's time to learn!) He started to run off to school, leaving Kamino behind.

"¡Oye, Mateo! ¡Espera para mi!" (Hey, Mateo! Wait for me!) Kamino ran after him.

"They've grown so close in just a month," Maki added.

"Those two? Yeah, I don't know them." Kazama and Maki laughed. His sarcasm always made her laugh.

"Come on, they're just a weird couple, like Kaname and Sakura."
