the first few minutes of the call, nothing was said. michael was staring at lane, amazed at how he got this beautiful girl to ever answer back.
lane was staring at michael, ignoring the fact that she was almost falling asleep, thinking of how lucky she was to be introduced to this weird, wonderful boy.
what michael didn't know was that lane wasn't always awake when he messaged her. sometimes she'd be in bed, almost fast asleep before her Instagram notification went off. She always replied, no matter what time it was.
"woah," michael breathed, feeling his breath being taken away. she was so effortlessly beautiful.
"what?" lane asked, the rare feeling of insecurity she had washing over her. never had a boy made her feel so good about herself yet so worried about her image. she'd been putting much more effort into her Instagram selfies since she started to feel something for michael.
but now, as they were video calling each other and she was wearing her vest and pyjama shorts, with her make up wiped off and her hair in a messy braid, she felt a hint of regret over the happiness in her heart.
"s-sorry. i just can't believe a girl like you is talking to me," he apologised, burying his head in his hands. he tried his best to impress her yet he couldn't help but think he was embarrassing himself.
maybe lane had gotten to him more than he cared to accept
