Me and the mystery dude were sitting in a nice, peaceful silence. He had just wolfed down the last of the pancakes, all 15 of them. They weren't small, either.
My head was flooded with questions, but I was kind of afraid to ask them. I mean, this dude could be ape shit crazy, what if one of my questions launched some weird and long speech? I don't know about you, but I'm not much of a speech person.
Finally, I decided to say the first thing that came to mind, which, unfortunately, was, "Do you like cats?" Not an important question, to say the least.
Slightly stunned my random and useless inquiry, Mystery Man's face crunched up. He nodded, and I took that as an opportunity to leave the room as fast as possible. I ran for the backyard, completely flustered.
He looked so cute when he was confused! Who would have guessed some random alley-dweller like him would be so adorable?!
Getting myself back on track, I scoured the backyard for any signs of scruffy black fur and glowing blue.
There was a movement in the corner of the yard, and I tackled it. A few howls and scratches later, I held a soft black cat in my arms. He stared at me coldly, portraying an almost human-like disdain through his fluffy cat features.
"Come on, Lucifurr, can't you play nice for one day? We have a guest." Yes, I'm talking to a cat. Yes, I'm lonely. Can we move on now?
I toted Luce into the house, paying no attention to the fact that he was cutting my arms into ribbons.
"Hey Mystery Man, I want to introduce someone to you." I sat down and plopped Luce on the table. "This here is my friend Lucifurr. I was just gonna name him Lucifer, like the cat from Cinderella (because they're both the spawn of Satan), but I thought Lucifurr was funnier. I call him Luce for short."
Mystery Man smirked, and then suddenly launched a stareoff with Luce, both of their eyes flashing coldly. I stood back in confusion, then noticed that they could literally be twins if not for the fact that Mystery Man (I'm getting sick of this nickname) had one green eye. Oh, and the fact that Luce was a cat.
I heard hissing (and to be honest I had no idea where it was coming from), so I decided that it was time to split the two up.
"Okay, boys, no need to fight. My heart is plenty big enough for the both of you." Oh my god. What the fudge did I just say? My face flamed up in embarrassment.
Surprisingly, they actually backed off of each other. Me being me, I didn't find that weird.
Lucifurr rolled his eyes (is that actually possible, I wonder?) and curled up in my lap. "Anyways... I was wondering if you could possibly tell me your name?"
Mystery Man whipped out a black pen and scribbled something on his bruised arm. Where did he get that pen from, if I took his clothes? I shook off all my gross thoughts and leaned towards him.
Ignoring the scars all over his arms, I peered closely at what he was writing (in sloppy handwriting, I might add). It read,
sorry but I cant talk
my name is baneCringing internally at his penmanship, I smiled and let my thoughts pop out of my mouth. "So your name is Bane? ...Badass." He smiled (and blushed a little?).
"So... Bane. Since you can't talk, how's about I get you a notebook? It can be our way of communicating. I don't know about you, but I don't know sign language."
Bane looked like he wanted to say no, and even though I knew it was weird, I wanted to know more about this stranger I met in a sketchy alley. Plus, he kinda owes me since I treated his wounds. "Sorry, but you actually don't have a choice. Put on a shirt and take out your pigtails, we're going shopping!"
Lucifurr made a noise that sounded ridiculously close to a laugh, and Bane made a face that suggested the idea of shopping with me was the opposite of pleasing.
I smiled to myself happily. This was going to be fun.
