"Father please, don't do this!" a 16 year old Emilia cried as she watched her father before her throw all his belongings into his bags, prepared to leave all behind, all that he has built, including the young teenage girl who was begging him with all she had for him to just stay with her.

"I don't have a choice Emi... you know that they will come after me. I must leave at once." The man slurred while holding his ale in his free hand.

He was a drunk, has been since Emilia's mother passed away five years before. His desperate daughter had done all she could to comfort the man and let him know that he was loved, but it seemed to do nothing for him. Tom would make promises to the girl but his words were always empty, no matter how much she wanted for them to be true.

He snuck out to go to the taverns around the village despite being banned from half of them. It's just that this past time, he took up his drunken problems with the wrong man and now found himself being threatened by a knight and his friends. He had been given only two options; disappear before dawn the following day, leaving his daughter to the men, or suffer from a fate worse than death.

"But you mean to leave me father? Have I done you wrong? I only wish to go with you." pleaded the drunken man's daughter.

It wasn't that Tom didn't love his daughter, because he did, very much so. But he couldn't help the fact that he was a coward. If there was an opportunity given to free himself, he would take it, no matter the price.

"You know that I love you Emi, but you also know the danger that I am in. You wouldn't wish such a fate upon your own father would you?" He tried to reason.

This only confused the young girl. How was she meant to feel? She loved her father dearly and still holds onto the memories that they had shared before her mother had passed, but she was also wise enough to see through what he was doing. She had after all been taking care of him for the last five years.

Holding onto her last bit of strength she made her decision. "Of course not father, you know I only want you to be happy. I only wish to tell you that I will miss you greatly...Please travel safely." Emilia finished, knowing that if this was what the man who was once her father had wanted, then she best let him have it.

Without even a goodbye, Tom nodded at his daughter before retreating outside to leave these parts forever, never to return.

That night Emilia let herself go like she never had before. Finally releasing the feelings she still held onto brought by her mothers death and now followed by her fathers decision to leave; no, her fathers betrayal. The man had agreed to give his only daughter away to the same men who threatened him as a bargain; a peace offering.

The young girl continued to cry, completely unaware of the great storm that she had accidentally brought upon the town before she realized what she had to do.

Tom had left her to save his own skin, now it was her turn to save her own. And with that final thought she packed up the few belongings that she had and took off into the night with no sense of where to go and no means of shelter whatsoever.
