"Remi! Slow down! Where are you even taking me?!"
"Just hurry up!"
"I haven't even payed my respects yet!"
"This is more important, trust me!" My paws carried me across the forest floor while my best friend swooped overhead. I felt bad that she couldn't pay her respects for Ryker, but I needed to tell her something that it just couldn't wait. I sprinted toward the tree where Ryker's death occurred. My stomach felt like flipping just at the thought of his passing. I sighed, keeping the tears from returning to my eyes for the thousandth time. Quinn's voice broke my thoughts, "you better not be taking me to the Outside!"
"Do you want to know what's going on or not?!"
"I mean, I do... but-"
"Then stay quiet and follow me," I ordered. I growled at myself, knowing this wasn't like me at all. Ryker's murder had changed me. I was a completely different person now. I'm quieter, it's almost like I've matured. I hated that. I hated how my mentors death made me this way.
I slowed my pace gradually as I approached the tree, until I walked right into the area where the fight between Ryker and the woman took place. Despite the beautiful evening sky, this place was anything but happy. Quinn landed next to me and shifted into a human, and I did the same. By her furrowed brows, I knew I was about to receive a lecture, "Remi, can you please explain this to me? What are we doing all the way out here during Ryker's funeral?! What is so important?"
"Pack your valuables. We leave at full moon," I replied, my face more serious than it has ever been before.
"W-what? Leave?! Remi, what are we leaving for? Where are we going? Can you be a little more specific," confusion tainting her voice.
"I... I don't know if I can tell you, yet..." I admitted.
"Why? Are you going to tell me that you dragged me all the way over here and tell me to leave and not explain it to me?" frustration filled her tone.
"I promised Ryker I wouldn't tell anyone..."
"Are you serious?!" she was almost laughing in disbelief, "he's de-" she stopped herself as a wave of hurt washed over my face.
"Remi," she began, her voice soothing, "maybe we shouldn't make rash decisions. You're still... you know, unstable. We all are."
"I know what I'm talking about..." I answered, my muscles stiffening.
"You know how these ideas of yours end up, Remi. You... you always regret it."
"You don't trust me."
"It's not like that! I do trust-"
"Nobody does. Not a single person listens to me anymore! They just smile and nod, pretending like they understand! Nobody believed me when I described Ryker's death!"
"Remi, there's no such thing as a, "bullet" than can kill a person in one blow. It just isn't possible! I hate to say that, but I'm your best friend and I need to hold you accountable," I noticed her tense, she knew I was getting upset.
"Are you saying I lied to everyone?" I narrowed my eyes, my hands balling into fists.
"N-no! Remi, you're not-"
"Is that what I am to everyone? Just a liar? Stuck in my own, little fantasy realm?" I questioned.
"Well..." Quinn gulped, "m-maybe if you didn't act like a child all the time, people would take you seriously! Maybe... Ryker's death helped you," the fire in her eyes instantly went out. My amber eyes widened at her comment, tears beginning to shine in them, "I didn't mean that! I take it back!"
"Why the heck would you ever think that?!" I yelled.
"I wasn't thinking! I just said it," the place went silent, and Quinn sighed, "listen, if it means that much to you, I'll go with you."
"You promise?"
"I promise."
Heyo! Sorry for the short chapter, I just felt like I needed to make a transition and I thought it would be longer. But at least, now, we get to know Quinn a little more. Hope you enjoyed!
