Scorch jumped around, thrashing her tail to try and shake me off, but I could feel my long fingernails digging into her scales, which only made her thrash even more. One last jerk on the ground, and I could have fallen off, but once Scorch took to the sky, and it was no longer an option.
She didn't fly anywhere, but she kept jerking her tail around, trying to fling my off.
One particular thrash sent me sky-high. I had let go of the tail with one slip of my hand. This thrash though, didn't threaten to drop me to the ground. Scorch twisted just right, so now I landed onto the middle of her neck. I clasped back onto the animal and watched the entire world spin as she tried to get me off. Or was it my head that was spinning?
"Meep!" I heard Jace yell. "Meep, Meep! I found it!"
"Great! Tell me the reversal!" I screamed back. I tried to close my eyes, but that made the ride even worse. Plus, the cut in my forehead and in my side were bleeding so badly, I could barely think straight. The ride didn't help much either.
I looked down at the ground to see Jace flipping through the pages. I felt like I was going to throw up. My wounds on my side and my head were bleeding still. I was starting to get dizzy, and the ride on Scorch's back plus my wounds had to help with it.
Scorch threw fire into the air in frustration, and it was weird that I could feel the fire originate from her throat. It was like I had my hand to a pipe filled with flowing water.
I felt light headed.
"Meep!" Jace yelled. "I found the reversal!"
"What page?" I screamed back.
"49!" He replied.
"Throw the book up to me!" I yelled. I looked down from Scorch's place in the sky to see the book flying up to me. I reached one hand out as much as I dared to catch it, when I saw what I had been dreading.
Scorch turned to see the book climbing the air to me and opened her mouth, caught her breath, and blowing fire into it's direction. The book was close enough to my hand that my hand was burned in the outer flames. I screamed out in pain, sweat beading down my head, or was it blood?
I retracted my hand and grabbed onto Scorch's neck again, but the burned skin sizzled on Scorch's scales. My hand shook with pain. I put it up to my face to see my skin the darkest black I could ever see. I cried out again.
"What was the spell?" I yelled out to Jace in agony. Tears were already sprawled out across my blood-ridden cheeks.
"I didn't see it! I just saw the title!" Jace called.
"You're worthless!" I screamed. The curse didn't screen my words since I was in so much pain. I could barely keep my eyes open, let alone watch my manners.
"I know it!" I heard another person say. I opened my eyes enough to see Hona, Feather, and Crimson slowing down from running here. Hona was the one that yelled out.
"All my power is to go, a wizard's essence, spirit and soul; Let it be forever free, until it is passed back to me! To Hona!" I shouted. I screamed out in pain as every last piece of strength left my body and trailed over to Hona on the floor.
The stabbing pain in my side and my forehead kept bleeding, draining me of the red fluid. My right hand that was burned in Scorch's breath were literally sizzling. I could hear it.
Life was draining from my body, I knew that. I felt Scorch get pushed by something underneath me, and she was sent to the ground with me on her back. My hands slipped again, my legs having no use either. I was dying.
My eyes closed as I fell from the sky, and I could see something in my eyelids.
My mom and dad were sitting on their green bed with me in front of them.
"Both your dad and I know that you were destined for great things." My mom's voice echoed in my ears.
I struck the ground. My mind went blank. Darkness.
