The house phone started ringing, yet again mum, my stepdad Keith were out. I went to the hall and grabbed it. I looked at the number and realise it was Anthony’s mum, June.
Anthony was my ex boyfriend, but we were really close. Anthony and I are both sixteen and in year eleven. We have been friends since we were four years old. We'd been on off since year seven, but most of the times we broke up he dumped me. So even when we weren't togheter I loved him. I couldn't help it. But if I ever broke up with him it was normally during an argument and it wouldn't last for longer than a day. Anthony’s family were more like a family to me than mine was.
June loved me like I was actually her daughter in law. She always called me, I didn’t mind. It was nice having an adult taking interest in your life, even if it wasn't your own mother. I can’t remember the last time mum and me had a conversation like me and June.
Jason, his dad was so nice to me and he was funny. He always treated me like one of his, he’d try and give me money when Anthony and I went out to places like the fair and that, but I’d never take it. So he’d give it to Anthony instead.
Callum was his eighteen-year-old brother. He was like my older brother when it came to boys, but only boys that weren’t Anthony. He would always tell me how proud he is of Anthony for choosing a decent girl, and how he needs to stop messing me about.
Then there was little Hayley, she was Anthony’s three year old sister. She was adorable, I remember the day she was born Anthony and I stayed home and got her cot and everything ready. I loved her like she was my own sister, and she loved me back which made me so happy.
I put it to my ear and she said,
“Hey Kayla,”
“Hi June, how’s everyone?”
“We’re good thanks, how are you?”
“I’m good, how was your holiday?”
“It was good thanks, got back last night,”
“Yeah Anthony text to say he was home safe, and how much he missed me.”
“Bless him,” June said sweetly.
“I thought it was very sweet. I’ve missed him so much,”
“You know you’re welcome round here anytime,”
“Thank you,”
“Well we’re having a barbeque, so I was wondering if you wanted to come?”
“Um... only if it’s alright,”
“Of course, see you in a little bit.”
I put the phone down and grabbed my shoes. I walked to Anthony’s house; it was like five minutes away. I knocked on the door and Hayley answered it. She smiled and I said,
“Hello,”
“Hello,” she said hugging me.
I heard footsteps in the kitchen. Then I heard Anthony’s deep voice say,
“Hayley, who are you talking to?” he walked into the hall and opened the front door round fully. His voice had broke over the two weeks in Spain then.
“Your special friend,” she always called me that.
He smiled and I hugged him. He hugged me really tight and said,
“I missed you,”
“I missed you too,” I saw Hayley run off towards the back garden. I went in and Anthony shut the door. He smiled and said,
“I need to talk to you babe,” his voice was so deep, I wanted to laugh so badly.
“Ok, what’s up?” I smiled.
“Not here!”
