Sensitive readers, please skip to the next chapter.
This chapter is very bloody and if you don't like that, just skip it. :)
Don't say I didn't warn you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The platform stands on a field. In fron of me is the cornucopia. My platform is in the left end of the half circle. Behind me is a forest, on the other side of the half circle with tributes there's also a forest. To my right a long, long field, almost a swamp, stretches as far as my eye can see. And to my left is, guess 3 times, a forest.
I catch eye with Cato and he nods torwards the cornucopia. So does Marvel and Glimmer too. I turn my head to the big clock on the cornucopia, 39 secounds left. Focus.
My eyes scan the ground in front of the cornucopia. I see spears, swords, food, axes, maces and...YES! There's a knife kit, made for throwing. Ah, they're mine. Weirdly I only see one bow and one kit of arrows. Glimmer better be quick then.
20.19.18.17...The clock ticks down and I focus on the knifes. 10.9.8.7...My muscles tense and I lean forward. 3.2.1...The gong sounds and I'm off the platform.
Running toward the cornucopia I catch a blond head in the corner of my eyes. Though I'm small, I'm very fast. I reach the cornucopia almost first and grab the kit of knives. I see that you're supposed to have it like a vest but I don't have time for that. So I just hold it with my left hand and throw with my right.
My first knife hit a girl trying to get away with a dussin of spears. Ain't no one's gonna get Marvel's spears. When I throw my second knife, Cato and Marvel have arrived too. Now, Marvel's sitting on top of a tribute, slashing him or her with the dagger he found. And I can tell you, it's not a pretty sight.
Cato has found his sword and is now slashing with it at tributes to get himself into the cornucopia. A boy advances on me to my right so I duck and stab him in the stomach, dragging the knife upwards. He falls down on the ground, dead, with his whole chest bloody and open.
The adrenaline is pumping in my veins as I throw 3 other knifes at random tributes. But when I see Glimmer only a few feet away from me, stabbing a tribute trough the chest several times I stop throwing.
Now you might be thinking I'm gonna stop killing tributes. But you're wrong. I throw a knife at the next tribute's leg and he falls to the ground. I jump on top of him and raises my knife to stab him, but to my surprise, he's got a knife and he stabs me in my arm. The pain streams incredibly fast and I let out a scream in pain. Then I realize what he did so I scream in frustration, stabbing him right through his forehead. Surprisingly he doesn't die so I snatch the knife back from his forehead and shove it up through his throat. If he's not dead now then I'm green and I'm coming from Mars.
I raise to my feet and wave my arm a little to get the pain away, unfortunately it only increases. I turn around and look over the field for any tributes left. There's Cato, looking through some bags, Marvel, throwing a spear at a running little girl, Glimmer, strangeling a tribute boy, and... Katniss. Well, well, well I guess it's my lucky day today.
I'm about to run over to her when an another boy approaches her with an ax in his hand. No, no, no. No one gets to kill Katniss but me. Furiously I throw a knife and it settles deep in his back.
The boy falls donw next to Katniss, giving me a free sight to her. Actually I wanted to give her a slow death but I guess a knife through her heart will be good enough. I throw my knife with a grin on my face and right when it's about to pierce her heart she...raises the backpack and hold it as shield. The knife stabs the backpack and she turns around and starts running away. What? No, no, no wait Katniss!
I start to mumble under my breath and I'm right about to run after her when I hear a familliar voice call.
"It's no use, Clove! You'll get her later!" Cato and the others are standing alone in the opening of the cornucopia. I look around but the only thing I see is dead bodies lying on the ground. That went quick.
I shrugger, still pissed how she got away with that. I walk over to them and we start to sort the bags in different piles. After about an half an hour, we're still not done.
"Why can't we just put it all in one pile?" I sigh, absolutely bored.
"We can't. It's to easy to steal then." Glimmer say with her annoying 'I-know-everyhing-look'. I shrugger and walk away from them, there's no way I'm gonna keep sorting all of those bags.
"Hey! Get back here! Everyone needs to do their work!" Glimmer shouts after me and I can hear her start coming in my way.
"Let her." I stop dead in my tracks. What did he just say? Is Cato defending me over her? I frown and sit down on the ground. I got all the knives we could find so now I have almost all of them sitting in my vest, but I've also got 2 in my boots and 4 in my belt around my waist. I feel safe.
"Pssst..."A small voice calls out to me to my right. When I turn in that way I see a boy around 14-15 with dark hair and black eyes. My hand flies to one of my knives.
"Wait! I can help you." he says and holds up his hands above his head. I nod at him to keep talking.
"I couldn't help but hear that you have 'problems' with your supplies. I'm from district 3 so I'm an expert in technology. I could help you reprogram the mines around the platforms so that no one get's close to your supplies." His plans sound actually extremely good but I'm not in the mood to go and tell them about it.
"What's your name?" I ask the boy.
"Kevin." he says and I nod.
"Well, Kevin, why don't you go over there and tell them about your awesome idea." I say and now torwards the others. His face pales but I continue before he can complain. "Tell them I sent you and if they start complaining and try to kill you, just say that I let you in so you're part of our allience now."
He gulps but nods and starts making his way over to the others. I watch their expressions when they see him and how they change when Kevin tells them what I told him to say. After a while they all nod and Kevin starts walking around to all the platforms, digging up the mines around them.
While Glimmer and Cato works on the big pile of supplies, Marvel walks over to me. He sits down next to me but doesn't say anything for a long time.
"What's troubling you?" he finally asks. At first I'm surprised. I'm not in trouble, I'm perfectly fine. But then I realize I'm not.
"I have a sister back home, the girl I volunteered for. She hates being a Career and thinks killing people for fun is brutal and wicked. I've always thought she was crazy for saying that but now, when I might not come back to her, I don't want her to hate me for being a brutal Career, you know." It feels weird to let all my feeling flow over to Marvel but, I somehow feel an big wave of trust between me and him.
"Well, I think she would be proud of you. I don't think she cares if you kill 23 people just to get home. She just wants you to come back to her." his answer surprises me but it also makes me feel better. Clary wants me to come home to her and she doesn't care what I do to do it.
"Thanks Marvel." I say and give him a small smile.
The rest of the days we just sit beside the camp fire and talk about what we're going to do the next following days, while Kevin works on his mine trap.
