Problems on Wattpad

The Handling of the FanFic chapter.

To contributors- Thank you for making your submissions whether you backed the blog or not. Giving your opinion is what this is about and I think it's great that you all joined in.

To Wattpad- This is a platform for people to advocate their opinions and reasoning for their opinions. With that being said, I am the one publishing. If you have an issue with this, I am the only one you can justifiably punish. Even there this is a respectful sharing of our ideas and beliefs. Isn't that what we are all about on this site? Also I want to say that these are meant to be respectful, whether they feel that way or not. With that being said I think that Wattpad does a phenomenal job on most things some of us just have criticism for this one action.

My perspective:

      This entire situation exemplifies the hypocrisy of the owners of Wattpad. They will condemn others for censoring them, but when it's convenient for them they will be glad to censor a story because it makes people uncomfortable a bit. Think about the federalist papers. They were created advocating a new design for government that would take the place of the Articles of Confederation. This design of course was the Constitution. It has proven to be one of the most effective documents. When the papers, that criticized the current government as well, were published, it was met by a widespread public disdain and anger. The sickening thing is if those papers were published on Wattpad they would most likely be removed, because some people would go complain to Wattpad about it hurt their feelings. Would Wattpad remove Martin Luther's (not MLK I mean the monk) theses of why he was seceding from the Catholic Church? Sure his actions were unheard of but his actions lead to protestant denominations being formed (most directly the Lutheran faith). Wattpad can't start to censor due to thinking that hurting peoples feelings is never right without saying those theses were wrong, making the faith invalid.

   Furthermore, the writers of this blog put themselves out there and were prepared to have a mature discussion with anyone who disputed what we said. Wattpad gave in and failed these writers by succumbing to the drama given by teenage girls. We did not target authors we merely discussed our disgust of a genre.  Wattpad apparently could not see the difference. Talk about lacking professionalism. In fact, there were fan fiction writers who had the courage to say "HEY I DISAGREE WITH WHAT YOU GUYS SAID!" There was a long discussion about fan fiction and the right to share opinions. It ended up being a productive and mature communication where we all agreed to disagree like adults in the end. That is what this site is about. The spark of talk created by that blog enforced everything Wattpad and writers on Wattpad believe alike.  If only drama had not emerged champion over a good medium of discussion.

   Finally, my concern for the future is that as we begin to censor stories more this site will become an Orwellian society like North Korea or Soviet Russia. Wattpad should not be our dictator. It should be a tool to help writers write better.

Alright, I completely understand it’s watt-pad’s role to be our big brother basically. Just like in real life, when us younger children have a scuddle you have to come in and break up the fight. In this situation, we had a scuddle, did some hair pulling, name calling and wedgie pulling but in the end we all decided…we can’t control the universe. After all the bickering was done and we were settling down for snack time big brother watt-pad came in and decided…it needed to make its power be felt. Yes, I know it’s scary that we don’t need you to solve all our problems but it’s true big brother. You took our moment of maturity and whizzed right all over it just to remind us….in the end you were big brother. We love you big bro watt-pad…but you need to understand that sometimes your younger siblings can fight, play, grow up and call it a day.
