I get to my house and set my stuff down.
I should have never made that promise.
I should have known I would meet a beautiful girl like Melanie.
I should have known I
would fall for her the second I laid eyes on her.
I got to the kitchen and take a bottle of beer out.
I chug that shit down.
As I reach to grab another one, my phone starts ringing.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Ashley..... Oh my god.... I just.... Please.... I can't." I hear sobbing on the other end. I look at the caller ID and see its Melanie.
"Hey hey calm down. What's wrong?"
"She was- oh god Ashley please come get me I just- I can't."
"Where are you?" I start to panic.
What happened?
Is she okay?
Is she hurt?
Did Marina do something?
"I'm at my house just p-please hurry." She sobs.
"Okay. I'm coming. Just stay on the line and everything with be okay. Can you do that for me?" I say softly.
"Yes." Her voice cracks.
"Shh just calm down Mel. Everything will be okay. I promise."
Another promise made.
"Ashley?" She cries into the phone.
"Yea Mel?" I say driving to her house.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For thinking Marina was the one."
Oh god something happened.
"No no don't cry. It's okay I swear."
I pull into her driveway and she's in her car crying so hard.
My heart breaks seeing her like this.
"Hey it's okay I'm here." I say helping her out of the car.
She cries into my chest causing my shirt to get wet.
"Shhh." I kiss her head.
"Come on. I'll take you to my place and you can tell me what's up okay?" I say softly.
She nods.
Suddenly Marina and Liz rush out.
"Melanie." Marina says.
"Get away from me!" Melanie screams.
"Let me explain." She says getting closer. But I hold on to Melanie even tighter and back up.
"Melanie go to my car. I'll be right there." She nods and I give her the keys.
As soon as she gets in I turn to Marina.
"What did you do to her?" I demand
"Ashley I didn't do anything I just-"
"I'm going to ask you one last time. What did you do to her? Because whatever you did, she obviously doesn't deserve a piece of shit like you."
Marina and I stare at each other not losing eye contact.
"Guys calm down." Liz says walking between us.
