The large tent was filled with people, all of them becoming a big blur to Dean. He was stood on a platform waiting for Celeste to finish her act. She was performing an intricate ballet routine, and although Dean was too high up to see it properly, he could tell she was doing a wonderful job. The audience seemed absolutely captivated by her. The elegant motions, the calming sound of the violin, the soft lighting, it was beautiful. As Celeste's dance continued on, Dean fidgeted with his suspenders nervously. He felt like he looked ridiculous, with red and white striped tights and dark red shorts, blue suspenders, he even powdered his face white and drew some red dots on his cheekbones. Dean could practically sense Sam laughing at him. But he knew it would look good for the audience. (It's the outfit from the cover, just fyi)
Only one good thing came from the stupid outfit. The boy Dean would be performing with would be wearing something similar, which of course he was looking forward to. Dean had known the boy for quite awhile but had never gotten the courage to really talk to him. From what he had gathered though, he and Sam had arrived a few weeks after him.
*flashback*
They had stayed in the little town for the night, where Dean and Sam had their first decent meal in ages, and left first thing in the morning. It took them three days to find the circus group. Once they got there, the three hopped out of the carriage, stretching their legs. Sam and Dean looked around excitedly, taking in their surroundings and admiring their new home.
Chuck quickly guided them over to a tall boy who appeared to be eleven or twelve, and started saying something to him in a quiet voice. Dean didn't have a chance to listen to what he said though, as a small hand had grabbed his. "De, look! See how tall he is?" Sam was tugging on Dean's hand excitedly and pointing at a guy wearing stilts. "Can I be that tall someday De?"
"Depends how tall I get," Dean joked. "What D'ya mean?" Sammy looked at him, confused. "I mean you're not allowed to be taller than me," Dean stated matter of fact. "Oooooh, okie," Sam nodded and continued looking about.
At that moment Chuck turned back to them, clearing his throat, "Sam, Dean, this is Michael, he's going to show you two around okay?" Dean looked at back and forth between Michael and Chuck. "You mean you're not going to?" He asked accusingly.
"Wish I could kid, but I've got a circus to run." He turned away, but paused and turned back. "I'll check up on you guys later," and with that, was on his way.
"He does that a lot," Michael stated. Dean turned to face him "Does what?" He asked curiously. "Run off," Michael replied. "Sometimes he leaves for weeks. Course, it's not like I can blame the guy." He shook his head, "Anyway, I need to show you around."
~*~*~
Michael had walked them around the the groups of tents, explaining what they were for and making sure that they had a tent to sleep in. By the time they finished their tour it was nearly time for dinner, so Michael lead them down to the kitchen tent where a bunch of wooden picnic tables had been set up outside.
There were people crowding the tables, yelling and shoving each other playfully, and Dean couldn't help but smile at the joyful atmosphere around him. Michael lead them to a quieter spot away from the commotion, over to where two boys who looked around the same age as Sam and Dean sat talking animatedly with an older boy, who looked around the age of Michael.
"Mind if we join you?" Michael asked the older boy, who nodded and grinned at him. "Was wondering where you'd gotten lost to," the boy joked. "I was getting a little worried, what with the fact it's getting dark and you hadn't come running," the boy turned to Sam and Dean, "You see, Mikey here is just a wee bit afraid of the dark." He turned to Michael and winked. "Sorry Dude,"
