3 - Reality

When Rachel and Joseph arrived at Ian's place, a stressed look Eve opened the door to them, a wailing Cherry in her arms. Before Rahel could even walk inside, Cherry was practically thrown into her arms, and the crying immediately stopped.

"I fucking knew it" Eve exclaimed "She knew you were coming"

Rachel frowned at her "Eve, she's not even 1 yet, she couldn't of known"

"Ever since you agreed to watch her, she hasn't stopped crying. You arrive, the crying immediately stops. She knew you were coming" Eve states knowingly, narrowing her eyes at her daughter, who was calm and content in Rachel's hold "Admit it, you love her more then me, your own Mother"

Ian appeared behind her, and frowned at at the scene "Eve, honey, we've been through this. She doesn't love Rachel more"

To prove a point, Eve took hold of Cherry once again, and the crying began again. She then gave her back to Rachel, and the crying halted once more. She then turned to face Ian, her arms folded over her chest, a smirk plastered on her lips.

Ian just glared back at her, before glancing over at Rachel and Joseph, who were trying hard not to laugh at the couple "Please come inside, guys. Are sure you'll both be alright watching her ?" Which made Eve scoff, so Ian placed his hand over her mouth, refraining her from commenting.

Joseph just chuckled "I think we'll be fine. Go and have fun"

Rachel sat on the floor with Cherry, who was laid on her back grinning, letting out squeals of laughter every so often. For the past hour, Rachel had been sat playing Peek-a-Boo with her, and she loved it.

"Tired yet ?" Joseph asked from behind, where he had been sat on the couch watching them, amusement plastered on his face at the pair.

Rachel shook her head "Nope" She answered simply, ticking Cherry's sides playfully, making the squeals of laughter get louder.

"Well, are you hungry ? Eve left the number for Pizza"

"Ham and Pineapple" She told him "But also add -"

"Mushrooms, I know" He finished for her, kissing her temple as he stood up, and went to go order for them.

 Rachel went back to game while he was gone, but stopped when Cherry began pulling strange faces, which worried her slightly. After a few moment, a small look of content appeared on her face, and Rachel just stared at her confused. Until it hit her.

"OH UNCLE JOSEPH" She shouted, pinching the bridge of her nose to block out the smell "CHERRY HAS A PRESENT FOR YOU"

Joseph walked back in confused, until the smell hit him also, and he gagged slightly "Oh bloody hell"

Getting to her feet, she picked up Cherry and handed her to Joseph, who held out at arms length to try and avoid the smell "Diapers and everything you'll need, are upstairs in the nursery. Have fun"

"Er, you can come help. We both have to learn how to do this, remember ?" Joseph pointed out knowingly, a smug look on his face.

"I know how to do it, I've changed her before now, but you haven't" She fires back "You need to learn"

Joseph grumbled something under his breath, before taking Cherry upstairs to change, leaving a grinning Rachel behind. She plopped down on the couch, and put the TV on to find something to watch, one of her hands rested on her stomach. She hadn't started showing yet, but was excited for when she would, it would make all seem more real.

A few moment later, Joseph came back down holding Cherry in his arms. Rachel glanced up at them, and put her hand over her mouth as to not laugh. Cherry had a grin on her face, while Joseph looked royally pissed off, his T-shirt wet with something.

"What happened ?" She managed to ask, biting back laughs, a idea of what happened already in her head.

"I took off the Diaper, and she decided she still needed a wee"

Ans a snort escaped her lips, earning a glare from Joseph. A light bulb going off in his head, he placed Cherry down in her playpen, before walking toward Rachel with open arms "Come here, dear, I want a hug"

Quickly jumping up, she threw a cushion at him, before running away "Oh hell no !"

Once Joseph changed into one of Ian's shirts, the pair laid on the couch together watching TV, after feeding and putting Cherry to bed. A baby monitor was on the table beside, listening out for signs Cherry had woken up, feeling content in one another arms.

Joseph had his arms wrapped around her waist, his hands resting on her stomach almost protectively, which made a small smile play on her lips. Just as the pair began to fall asleep, the sound of crying came through the Baby Monitor, and they both groaned.

"I'll go" Rachel mutters, getting up and making her way out of the room, not before giving Joseph a quick peck on the lips first.

When she got upstairs, she yawned as she pushed open the door of the Nursery, and wandered over to Cherry's crib. The child was laid down, with tears streaming down her face, wails escaping her mouth. Bending down, she picked her up gently, bouncing her up and down in her arms slightly.

"It's okay" She soothed "It's okay, Auntie Rachel's here, it's okay"

Cherry's cries began to lessen, bu they were still happening.

"Mommy and Daddy will be home soon, I promise. You miss them, don't you ?"

So, then Rachel began to gently hum, hoping this might soothe her. Before she knew it, lyrics were falling from her lips "Hush little baby, don't say a word, mama's gonna by you a mocking bird. And if that mocking bird don't sing, Mama's  gonna buy you a diamond ring"

The crying completely halts, and smiling a small smile, Cherry begins to dose off in her arms. Usually, Rachel would take this as victory, and put her back into bed. But, instead she just continued to sing to her, still lightly bouncing her in her arms.

Quietly standing in the doorway behind, Joseph watched them in complete awe. IN that moment, he knew they were ready. Yeah, they still had a lot to learn, and it would be hard at first. But, they would be ready for a baby of their own, and whatever challenges are thrown their way with the new child.
