I checked the time and my eyes widened like saucers. It was already half past nine! Oh how quick time really flew! I haven't even had my lunch for today yet. Just when I realized I haven’t done so, my stomach grumbled really loudly. I mean really loudly. It almost sounded like a human grunting in pain. I think I need to head back to the apartment as soon as possible and cook dinner. That was if I figure out how to turn on the gas.

I took a step forward to head towards the driver’s seat when I heard the same pained grunt again. I looked down. “Woah, stomach, chill okay?” I talked to my body organ like a lunatic and patted it.

As I was about to go inside the car, a brown puppy suddenly ran towards me. It was really cute! I've always had a soft spot for animals. Ignoring my urgent need for food, I bent down and petted the puppy, “Hey little guy. Where’s your owner?” I ran my hands through the creases on his skin.

The dog only barked at me repeatedly. I was no expert in animals but I figured he was trying to tell me something. Oh god, I must be really hungry I was starting to think I was a dog whisperer.

The dog ran around in circles before heading towards the left of the car park. Instinctively, I followed it.

“Oh my god!” I screamed upon seeing the sight before me. The dog stood beside a man curled up in a ball with blood all over his white shirt. He must be his owner.

I heard my stomach grumble again. No, wait. I figured that wasn’t my stomach all along. The grunt was actually coming from the man. “Mis..ter…?” I asked in a meek tone. It seemed as if I lost all my ability to utter words due to shock.

He feebly looked up, his eyes were half lidded, “Hey…Can you help…?” he said in such a low voice I had to lean forward to hear him.

My chest suddenly tightened. Why was he lying down there? Why was he covered in his own blood? Was there a murderer prowling in this car park? I felt my hands freeze over. I looked to my left and my right quickly but I saw no one.

“Ugh” I heard him struggle. It only made me panic even more. I was in the middle of a heated battle between my fear and my conscience. Should I let my fear take over and run for my life or should I follow my conscience and help him?

In the end, my conscience won me over as before I even realized my body was already on autopilot and I was already helping the poor man up. Judging from his physique – since his face was covered in bruises - he was probably around my age. “We’ll get you to the hospital, okay?” I said calmly but my hands were frantically shaking.

I quickly opened the door to the backseat of my car and helped him lie down. Before closing the door, I gave my surroundings another once over to see if there was a murderer around. At a speed in par with lightning, I dashed towards the driver’s seat and started the engine.

Oh crap! The dog!

I opened the door to the backseat and let the dog in.

We arrived at the hospital in no time. I didn’t know I can drive that fast. During the journey, I asked him what happened and why he ended up in that state. He told me there was a group of hooligans who stole his belongings. He wasn’t intending to put up a fight with them and would have freely handed them his stuff but they tried to take the bracelet his mom gave to him too. Apparently, it was really important. He ended up getting stabbed because he tried to save it from their hands. Poor guy.

I expertly parked in front of the A&E and asked for help from the staff inside to take out the injured man at my backseat. With haste, the staff went out and brought along with them a wheel chair to assist the guy with.

I felt a gush of relief and a sense of pride. I managed to bring a badly injured man to the hospital. I practically saved a life. I deserve an award, seriously. I feel like I can do everything now. If I managed to do this, I don’t see why I won’t be able to manage living independently.

I decided I was going to cook myself an extravagant dinner tonight. Probably complemented with a glass of red wine.

“I just found him in the car park” I informed them. “So if you have any questions, just ask him. I’ll leave him to your care” I bowed to the nurses. I wanted to bid a proper goodbye but I was already feeling slightly nauseous because of my hunger.

“Wait!” the man interjected. “I need to know your name and your contact details so once I get better I can reward you”

I waved my hand in refusal, “It was my pleasure to help. Don’t worry about rewards” Please, I just want to eat.

He nodded weakly, “Alright, no rewards. But what about… a date?”

My head slightly tilted back at his question. Poor soul. He must be in so much pain right now he didn’t know what he was saying anymore. I told him, “Mister, just get in. You need to get healed. You’re losing a lot of blood already” there was a tinge of worry in my tone.

The nurses rolled his wheelchair when he suddenly stopped it with his feet. “Don’t take me in yet. The lady has to answer my question first.”

I gawked at him, “Mister are you crazy? You’re already dying, please think about your life!” I exclaimed.

“But you’re already leaving.... I can’t let you leave without answering my question... Yes or no?” he asked.

My brow inclined, “No! I don’t even know you. Now don’t be stubborn and just go in” Geez, if he kept on, I think I will be the one who will be in need of medical treatment.

He dramatically looked away, “Alright… you broke my heart. I guess…there’s no more point in living… Don’t take me in and just let me die. She didn’t say yes…”

I shifted my weight to one side, “Are you being serious right now?! Nurse, please, take him in!”
