Great. Just great.
It was perfectly sunny just a few minutes ago and now the clouds weren’t looking too good. They were dark, gray and gloomy displaying an apparent contrast with my current mood.
Jiyong went back to our table with a cup of Americano for me and an iced coffee for him. “Here you go” he slowly placed the cup on the table.
“Thank you. I feel like such a burden. You already treated me to dinner and now, coffee” I pointed out.
“You saved my life. This is nothing. You're not at all a burden” he stared into my eyes as if he was staring into my soul. I only looked down in attempt to hide the obvious shyness on my face but I think the gesture only made it more apparent. He started, “By the way, I wanted to tell you, the police are close to finding the thieves”
“Really?! How?” my eyes widened in amazement.
“There were CCTV cameras in the car park. Not only do the police know their faces, we also now have evidence if ever there’s going to be a trial”
“This is great! I’m so happy for you!” I said gleefully.
He returned me a thankful smile, "I can finally retrieve my mom's bracelet along with my other stuff. Hope it's still with them. You know, I haven't told my family about this yet"
"Huh? Why not?" I knitted my brows. Was he not in contact with them anymore?
He answered, "'Cause once my mom knew, she will force me to move back with them. She's quite overprotective since I'm her only son. It will be bloody"
"Oh my god! My dad's the same" And that started another moment of cherishing one of our similarities. We spent a quite a while complaining about our fussy, overprotective parents who did not trust complete grown ups like us to live alone.
We also told each other of how our past ten days without seeing each other went. It was all too comfortable. I felt like I was sat down with a bestfriend I haven’t seen for a year. We talked about a lot of things. But this time we didn’t get to the closing time. I told him I couldn’t stay long as I have to go to work early the following day.
We were about to head outside when it started pouring heavily. People were frantically running as they tried looking for a shelter to keep them dry.
I quickly took out the small folded umbrella from my bag and opened it, “Let’s just hope we fit in here” I told Jiyong seeing he didn’t have anything with him but his wallet.
We tried to stand close together on our way to our cars as we ventured the heavy rain. His addictive scent hovered over me.
Our strategy was quickly proven to be ineffective. We came to the conclusion that my umbrella just wasn’t meant for sharing. My left side and his right side were already soaked and we weren’t even half way to our cars.
“Ah. This won’t do” he hissed as he shook his head.
