The doors beeped, the ear cutting sound soon followed by a whoosh of escaping air as the doors slid open with a hum.
A dead guard with a slit neck flopped to the ground as the doors slid out from under his limp frame. Spinel kicked his rag doll like form out of her way, metal capped boots glinting with blood.
She strode across the dark room, adjusting her forearm gauntlets absentmindedly. The rooms walls were cloaked in pulsating monitors, red symbols flashing with a continuing cascade of alarms. Her clanging footsteps mingling in with the cacophony. She furrowed her brow and glanced around the room. No alarms for this room had been triggered, the security system was offline.
Spinel felt a sinking pit open up in her stomach. She didn't have time for this! Not now. Not here.
She felt her hand creeping towards her hip flask and she collapsed onto the desk chair that faced the motions. She spun around on the chair and took a long swig from her flask, not a drop spilling from her lips.
Spinel screwed the cap back on and rested her hands in the holo key board before her. The assassins fingers darted across the screen and not to her surprise a icon popped into existence a mere few seconds later.
A large four pointed star sat smugly in the centre of the screen, a large diamond like eye stared down at her from the stars centre.
"Of corse you're here." Spinel sneered up at the pulsating logo. "The one time Locus raids this base and you're here."
A sound frequency line faded in over the logo, half transparent. A low computerised voice sent shivers down Spinel's spine, the sound line pulsating and beating with every sound.
"Greetings BK 47." The voice hummed.
"ASTRA." Spinel sighed distastefully. "Fancy meeting you here, oh what a honour."
"This is not your battle. Walk away." ASTRA droned over the speakers, voice echoing through the shadowed room.
"Oh really now?" Spinel smirked, fingers tapping rhythmically on the hard desk. "What ever gave you that idea?"
"You have nothing to gain from the Locus." ASTRA's voice rang through the room, slicing through the cascade of alarms still beating in the background. "Walk away." It repeated.
Spinel glanced down at her finger nails, as if checking for dirt. "Well you seen now," she lowered her hand slightly and glanced up at the glowing logo in mockery. "That's where you went wrong Sunshine."
Spinel smirked up at the monitor, eyes glowing like diamonds in the screens light. "But you don't give a flying shit about my motives, do you?" Her eyes narrowed, the shit eating grin still plastered on her face. "Some shit must have really hit the fan for the great ASTRA to grace us with their presence. Pray tell."
