Cata was still dizzy when Subaru began guiding her around the mansion. She clung to his cold hand desperately.
"As you know, this is the main entrance, and out there are the gates," they stood at the top of the stairs and Subaru made a sweeping gesture over the room.
A red carpet covered the stairs. Two red couches sat squat beneath the windows on either side of the room. Columns of marble supported the ceiling. The whole room was washed in a warm yellow glow by the magnificent chandelier above.
"It is rather beautiful," Cata hadn't had time to really appreciate the mansion the night before due to the chaos of their situation.
Subaru nodded and pulled Cata along to the next room. They went downstairs to what looked to Cata was a game room.
Yui was standing in the dimly lit room watching Ayato play darts. He hit the 20 every time. Yui was also drinking a box of cranberry juice.
On the other side of the wooden walled room, Ai was closely inspecting the pool table. Behind her, Shuu lay on a green couch and watched over her protectively.
Cata knelt down and stroked the soft green carpet.
"What are you doing?" Subaru asked.
Cata stood back up, "It looked soft..."
Subaru had never felt the carpet before. He hesitated, but knelt down as well and ran a hand over the carpet. It was indeed soft.
Cata giggled. Without realizing it, she reached out and touched his feathery white hair.
Subaru jerked away from her hand and snatched her wrist. Cata gasped, shocked.
Everyone turned to look at them. Their eyes bored holes in Cata's chest. Subaru glared at them and they all looked down, except Ai.
"Shuu?" She whispered.
"Hmm?"
"Did Cata do something wrong?"
Shuu smirked, "That's up to Subaru. Now be quiet, you're too loud."
Ai looked disappointed with herself.
Subaru directed his glare at Cata.
"Let's go," was all he said.
He kept his fingers curled around Cata's wrist. It hurt, but she didn't want to give him the satisfaction of complaining.
Subaru brought them back upstairs to the hall with the bedrooms. Only when they got there did he let her go.
"The first two rooms belong to Cece and Laito, the next two are ours. After ours are Michiko and Reiji's, then Ai and Shuu's. The last ones are Haru and Kanato's and Yui and Ayato's," he explained, "never are you allowed in any of the other rooms without direct permission from one of us."
All the bedroom doors were open except for Reiji's. Behind the door, scuffling and swearing could be heard.
"Would you like to see the gardens?"
Cata's blood red eyes lit up. She had always loved nature. She tried keeping plants in her home once, but she had never had a green thumb like her mother used to.
Subaru stared deep into her eyes, "Your eyes are intriguing. Are they naturally that color or do you wear contacts?"
Cata reached up and touched her face, "They are natural, but no one knows how I got them. My parents both had dark brown eyes. The doctors all said it was just a random mutation."
"Interesting..." Subaru continued to stare at her face.
Cata felt her cheeks redden, "You were going to show me the gardens?"
Subaru shook his head, "Yes, of course."
They stepped outside and were greeted by the sound of night birds chirping and frogs croaking. The moonlight softly covered the stone walkway.
"Subaru!!" Reiji's shouted down at Subaru from a window on the second story, presumably from his room.
"I have to go," Subaru said, "you know the way back to your room, right?"
Cata nodded and Subaru ran back inside to help Reiji.
An angry huff caught Cata's attention. Cece had stepped out from behind a bush and was glowering at the white gazebo in the middle of the gardens.
Laito was standing there, his arms wrapped around Michiko's waist. Michiko was trying to escape, but Laito had a tight hold on her.
"What's the matter, Cece?" Cata asked her friend.
"I don't see why Laito needs to try and chase her," Cece pouted.
"Aren't you afraid of him, though?"
Cece blushed, "That's not the point, Michiko is Reiji's and he gave me to Laito, not her."
"It doesn't look like she's enjoying the company..." Cata noted.
Michiko had managed to turn around to face Laito. He was grinning slyly at her angry expression and crossed arms.
He brushed Michiko's long curly hair away from her neck and bit down. Cece clenched her teeth, how dare he feed from that girl?!
She couldn't take it any longer and walked away from he scene; she didn't want Cata to see the tears falling from her eyes. It didn't make any sense. Cece had no reason to be mad at Laito or jealous of Michiko. So why did she feel this way? She thought back to the previous night.
Laito grandly shoved open the green double doors to expose his room. It was oddly empty, with just a bed, TV, closet, and bookshelf containing only three books on its shelves.
"You're room is over here, Little Bitch," he placed a hand on Cece's back and pushed her towards a small wooden door.
Cece's room was green like Laito's, her favorite color. She trailed her fingertips along the green wallpaper designed to look like a lush forest. She kicked off her shoes and let her feet sink into the lush carpeting.
Laito explained everything to her in a bored tone.
Excited, Cece jumped up and onto the light green queen sized bed. She had never had such a luxurious living space.
She heard Laito laugh behind her, but he was still standing in the door with his arms folded across his broad chest. Or so she thought. She turned around and a small yelp of surprise escaped her lips. Laito was hovering just above her shoulder. He leaned down and grinned.
"Is something wrong, Little Bitch?"
Cece was too stunned to say anything. Laito chuckled at her clear helplessness. He tilted her head to one side and bit down on her neck.
Cece whimpered a bit in fear and pain, but both feelings soon went away.
"Goodnight, Little Bitch," was the last thing she heard and she drifted into sleep.
Cece's cheeks burned and hot tears streamed down them. Her body shook with sobs.
"Whatever could be the matter, Little Bitch?" A calm voice asked behind her.
A gasp fell from Cece's lips as she felt sharp fangs trail down one side of her neck and a cold hand caress the other side.
"Speechless I see?" Laito's breath puffed against her neck, cooling the hot flesh and sending shivers down her spine.
Cece gulped and worked up her courage to speak. Even then, her voice came out shaky and weak, "Didn't you just feed off of Michiko? Why do you need me all of a sudden?"
"Jealous, Little Bitch? I tried, but she wiggled almost as much as Yui. It was quite annoying."
Cece whirled around, "Then feed off of me! I won't move at all!"
Laito's face grew smug, "So eager to please, I am starting to like you, Little Bitch."
Cece braced herself as Laito's fangs broke the smooth skin on her neck and he sucked her precious blood.
