Loose Ends

Cata studied her reflection in the mirror once more. Her breast had gone back to normal and the bite marks were starting to heal already, but she knew the two jagged rips in her pelvic region would leave horrid scars. She was afraid to face Subaru with that knowledge.

"Cata, are you almost ready?" Subaru called through the door.

"Yes!" Cata quickly got dressed in her usual gray hoodie and dark jeans.

"That's really what you're wearing?" Subaru asked.

"Oh, fuck off," Cata laughed. She playfully shoved Subaru away.

He laughed as well and grabbed her arm as she shoved him. They both fell on the bed, with Cata on top off Subaru.

Cata's hair made a curtain around them. Subaru cupped her face in his palms and brought it down to his. The kiss was brief but sweet.

"So I take it you plan on keeping me?" Cata asked.

Subaru smiled lovingly up at her, "If anyone wanted to take you they would have to pry you from my cold dead hands."

"Hmm," Cata hummed, "not the best thing for someone who is already dead to say..."

"You know what I mean," Subaru rolled his eyes.

Cata laughed again. Down in the game room, Laito, Cece, Ai, Shuu, Ayato and Yui were already waiting for them. Everyone was dressed in casual clothes or pajamas and sitting on a giant green couch.

"Took you two lovebirds long enough," Cece joked.

"Hey," Cata protested as she jumped over the couch to sit next to Cece, "we aren't the last people here!"

Kanato and Haru were the last to arrive after Reiji and Michiko.

They had all planned on watching a horror movie together. It had been Cece's idea, and all the girls knew it was just an excuse to snuggle close to their boyfriends in the most cliché way possible.

Haru got scared within the first few seconds of movie. Yui yelped at the first jump scare, causing everyone to shush her. Michiko fell asleep halfway through the movie. Ai was surprisingly unfazed by the whole thing, but still pretended to be scared. Cece was almost entranced by the display of blood and horror. Cata curled up and clung to Subaru's arm; she hated horror movies but would never admit it.

By the end of the movie, Ai and Cece had fallen asleep as well. Yui was too scared to move. Haru had gotten over the fear factor pretty quickly. Cata hid her fear behind sleepiness.

"You don't have to sleep alone," Subaru mentioned when they got back to the privacy of their rooms, "I know that movie scared you."

"I don't know what you are talking about..." Cata insisted. In the end, however, she crawled into bed with Subaru to sleep.

"Good night, beautiful," Subaru whispered.

Cata hummed and smiled. She finally felt safe and happy, with friends who cared about her and someone who truly loved her.
