This couldn't be happening.
My clock stops ticking.
I look around, expecting to see my match, but no one's there.
Maybe your match doesn't arrive right on time.
It will probably just be a few seconds until he comes.
Right?
I wait. Still no one.
Am I supposed to do something?
Worry fills me. Suddenly I become very still.
No, I couldn't be... Unmatchable? The Unmatchables are just a tale. Aren't they? It's an impossible thought.
The Society is never wrong. They've never failed with providing a match.
I'll just walk around and maybe I'll find him. When your clock ends maybe your match isn't right in front of you.
I walk around the town. No one. Of course there are people on the streets. But no one who looks as lost as me. At least no one who looks like they haven't found their match yet.
I feel like I should leave. I feel like someone is watching me.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone was, since I am in the town. There are people everywhere.
I'll just walk around.
I sit down on a bench in the park. I feel tired. I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.

When I wake up its dark outside.
Oh no. I think to myself. If my match was here I obviously missed it.
I'm all alone. Nowhere to stay.
But there is one place.
Home. I say it out loud quietly. I can go home.
My family would help me. They'd know what to do.
I run back home. Then I realize it might look suspicious for someone to see a girl bolting down the road.
I speed walk.
When I reach home I see through the front window that they are eating. Lillian sobs and mother tries to comfort her.
I run up to the front door and knock.
Not ten seconds later father opens the door. Shock and horror plastered all over his face.
"Teresa?" He says it in a whisper.
"I need help." I whisper back. He steps aside and I walk/run inside.
Quickly I close the blinds all over.
"Teresa?" Mother stands up and runs over to me, along with Sam and Lillian. "What are you doing here?!" I finish closing the blinds.
"Mom. I think I'm Unmatchable." I say quietly.
She stands there in shock, mouth halfway open like she wants to say something.
"Th-That's impossible." She says
Lillian runs up and squeezes me tight.
"I thought I'd never see you again." She says. I look at her.
"I did too."
"Teresa," father says, still whispering. "We need to hide you. The elders might be listening."
"Okay." I whisper back.
Where could I hide? There were speakers everywhere.
Except one place.
"The bathroom." I say. "I need to hide in the bathroom."
We all run to the bathroom.
"Just stay here until we figure something out." Says father.
"I'll bring you food to keep in the cabinet under the sink." Mother comments.
"Thank you." I hug them both.
"Of course darling." Says mother, holding my face in her hands.
"Lillian, go get any extra pillows and padding that you can find around the house." Father tells her. Lillian nods and runs off to do her job.
"Just sleep in the bathtub for now." Says mother. "We'll put padding inside so you're comfortable."
They were risking themselves for me by hiding me.
I love them so much.
Lillian finally comes in with many pillows and blankets, Sam with her.
"We got all of them." Said Sam.
"Here," Lillian hands me some of the load and we put it in the bathtub.
I feel like a fugitive. We learned that word in school.
Who knows. Maybe I am.

Everyone says goodnight, and go to sleep.
I get inside of the bathtub awkwardly.
Surprisingly it's quote comfortable. Lillian put so many cushions inside that it would be impossible for it not to be.
I think about the eventful day I've had. And I slowly fall asleep in the bathtub.
