What surrounds me is terrifying.

Complete wasteland. It looks toxic. There are abandoned homes,

We've seen pictures of toxic area in school, and this looks to be something like those pictures.

The ground is red, almost bloodlike, and there is no grass anywhere. There is nothing but this red dust covering the ground as far as I can see. Not that I can see very far because of little light. There are a few houses and, what seems to be, an old road. This must have been a city.

I risked my parents lives for this? I risked their lives for an abandoned city?

I grab out my flashlight and turn it on.

I shake a little.

So, this is it. I think to myself. This is what I've risked everything for.

I walk towards one of the homes. My body shakes as I reach for a handle. Slowly, I push it down. The door lets out a creak as it opens.

I cover my mouth to stop myself from screaming. The furniture is turned over randomly, scattered around the room.

The horrifying thing? The fact that there are bodies on the ground, covered in blood.

I stand there in shock. I slowly trudge toward the figure lying on the ground. The blood hadn't dried yet. My eyes widen. There are people here. I think to myself.

I walk around a little, looking at my surroundings. My eyes wander around the room. They suddenly stop at something lying on the dusty wooden floor. A neatly folded piece of paper lies on the floor. I walk to it, and pick the paper up. I start to open it...

Dear reader, if you're reading this, you're in grave danger...

My body suddenly becomes stiff as I hear a sound muffle from a half-open door. I stand up as quietly as possible and back out of the room towards the front door. I shove the note into my pocket. I hope desperately that I hadn't made any noise.

My body shakes like an earthquake.

"Is anyone there?" A male voice calls.

I break into a sprint as fast as I possibly can. I needed to get far away from this place, now. I turn around to check the area, and there I see it. I see someone following me.

This makes me run even faster. My body aches from the sudden movements. A little ache never killed anyone, right? That person following me on the other hand could.

I couldn't let this be the end. I only just made it out here. I had to keep running, for my family. For Sam. For Lillian. For mom, and dad. I couldn't let them down.

I let this sudden inspiration be the reason I keep going. I run faster than I'd ever ran before.

In my school years we had to participate in sports. I chose track. We only kept sports in the community for health reasons. It was strongly encouraged to participate in them.

Now I'm really grateful for those lessons, and practices.

My body shakes as I boot faster, towards several large buildings. Hoping to escape the person chasing me, I dart around one of the buildings. The city's big buildings were everywhere, making it like a giant maze.

I dodge a fallen streetlight and keep going. I reach an intersection and run right. As I pass, I read from the street sign Michigan Ave.

Weird.

I turn back to see if anyone is still following me. Surprisingly, no one is there.

Still running, I decide to go into a building. When I'm inside, I sit down and take giant breaths. My side cramps and my legs ache.

What just happened?

Only my first day and I've already almost been caught.

I glance towards the door I walked through. On the ground sits the note I found earlier, I must've dropped it.

I sit up and slowly walk to it, wincing after every step I take.

I pick the paper up and slide it into my pocket.

Suddenly my head pounds from a strike and I fall to the ground. As the world fades I notice a dark figure staring at me.
