We decided to move onto the next village and arrived there in under a day. We decided to camp on the outskirts of the village for a few minutes before going into the village and looking for more warriors. I helped set the camp by gathering wood and starting a fire. The boys pitched the tents while Natalie and Alison started making some food.
We were just talking when I felt a strange sense of fear and I heard a boy scream out HELP! I stopped what I was doing and listened hard for anymore noises. HELP ME! There it was again. I looked around the camp and saw that no one else had reacted to the cry for help.
“Did you hear that?” I asked the girls. They looked up at me.
“Hear what?” Katrina asked.
HELP ME PLEASE!
“That. There was a boy shouting for help,” I said, looking around.
“Suze, what are you talking about?” Leah said. “There’s no one shouting. You must have imagined it.”
PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!
“No!” I practically shouted. “I didn’t imagine it.” I suddenly reached into my pocket and pulled out the crystal ball. The smoke inside the ball was light blue and it was flashing weakly. “It’s another warrior!” I shouted.
I ran away from the camp and towards the sound in my head. It was leading towards the village.
“SUZE!” I heard shouts behind me. “DON’T GO ALONE!”
I looked behind and saw Elliot running after me followed by Andy, Paul, Will and the rest of the group. I carried on running towards the sound. I was afraid that it would go away if I didn’t find him soon. I reached the village and started searching everywhere for a little scared boy, but couldn’t see anyone of that description. The globe was glowing brighter and brighter. I stopped to catch my breath and heard a man shouting abuses.
I walked towards the noise and saw a large, pot-bellied man holding a frightened little boy by the arm. He was waving a large stick in the air and shouting at the poor boy.
“Hey!” I said. “Leave him alone!” I walked towards them and the man let go of the boy and pushed him onto the floor.
“You’re not even worth it,” the man spat at the boy. “Leave me alone and don’t ever come back!” He turned around and went inside a house.
I went and bent down next to the boy and tried to comfort him.
“Hi, I’m Susannah Mackenzie,” I said softly. “What’s your name?”
“A-Au-Austin. Austin Bradley,” he stuttered quietly.
“Ssh. You’re safe now,” I smiled at him and he smiled weakly at me.
Suze? Suze? It was Will’s voice. Where are you? He was communicating with me telepathically.
I’m alright. Follow the sound of my voice and you’ll eventually get here. Listen and follow what I’m saying. I told him.
After a few minutes, they had all appeared with me.
“This is Austin Bradley,” I said to the others.
