Michael

"Dude we should totally play that at the Halloween bash." Luke said.

"Yeah, I think that would work. We can talk to Ashton and Calum about it when they get here." I said.

We we were waiting for them to get to my house, so that we could start practicing. We also had to get a set list ready for the Halloween bash that we were playing at school on Halloween. We had several songs picked out, we just had to finalize it.

The garage door opened and Calum and Ashton walked in. They said hey and sat down on the couch that my dad had put out here for us. The garage had been basically transformed into our practice/hangout room. We spent more time here than anywhere else.

"So what are we gonna practice today?" Calum asked.

"I was thinking we could practice some of the songs we're gonna play for the bash." I said.

They all agreed, so we did some tuning up to make sure that everything was working and in tune. We started playing through the set list, added some songs, took some away and then we just played random stuff and goofed off.

Once practice was over, Ashton and Luke left, so Calum and I just hung out for a little while.

"So talk to that girl yet?" Calum asked me.

"What do you think?" I said.

"I think no, but I've been wrong before."

"Well your right this time."

He just rolled his eyes at me. "You gotta man up and ask her out before some other guy comes along and does it."

"She's probably not even into me."

"Dude she always looks at you when she sees you and she smiled back at you the other day. That's gotta mean something."

"It probably just means she's nice." I said.

"You're such an idiot. She lives right next door to you, just go over and talk to her."

"Maybe I will."

"Well that's a no." Calum said.

Now I just rolled my eyes at him. I was tired of hearing this all the time from him. Yeah, I had a little bit of a crush on her, but I didn't know if I was even the kind of guy she would even like. She was quiet and shy and I'm pretty sure that I had never heard her speak before.

"Can you just let it go?" I asked.

Calum shook his head. "Okay fine, I'll let it go."

"Thank you. I know you're just looking out for me, but I'm not ready for a relationship right now. I wanna get this band going somewhere and a girl will only distract from that."

"Yeah, you're right. You could still be friends with her though." He said.

I chuckled. "Yeah I guess I could do that. I'll see what happens."

"Sounds good to me. Well I better go, see ya tomorrow."

"See ya." I said.

He left and I finished cleaning up some. I threw the rest of the trash in the trash can and then dragged out to the road so that the garbage truck could come pick it up later. As I was walking back to the house, I looked up and noticed a blonde head sticking up on the porch swing of the neighbor's house. I knew right away who it was.

Riley and I had never been introduced. I just knew her because we were in the same class at school and she was always late to class. So I got a crazy idea and I don't know why I did it, but I guess there was a reason.

"Hey." I said.

She jumped a little and then turned around. She looked a little shocked that I was talking to her, and I was honestly a little shocked myself.

"Hi." She said back.

Now it was just feeling awkward. I decided to tell her my name, even though she probably already knew it.

"I'm Michael." I said.

"I'm Riley." She said.

"Cool name."

"Thanks." She said.

It was so silent that I could hear the crickets in the bushes. I didn't know what else to say and I was really feeling like it was super awkward, so I just decided to leave.

"Well, I'll see ya around, Riley." I said.

"Yeah, see ya." She said.

I walked back inside and into my room. I laid down on my bed, just thinking about what I had just said. Cool name? That's all I could say? Maybe I really wasn't ready after all....

Riley

I sat alone at lunch, waiting for Dustie to come. She was taking forever, but that was fine with me. Part of me wanted to tell her about Michael talking to me, but then again she still didn't know that he lived next door to me. I also knew that if I told her, she would do everything in her power to make sure that it happened again. So, maybe it was best if I just waited.

"Gosh I swear that lunch line gets slower everyday." She said as she sat down.

"Yeah, and it's never worth the wait." I said.

"You're telling me. I mean couldn't we just have pizza everyday? I'd be down for that."

"Same here, man." I said.

Suddenly I looked up and saw Michael. He was walking by our table and our eyes met, like they always seem to. He smiled at me and I smiled back, then looked away quickly, but not quick enough.

"Were you making eyes at red haired boy again?" Dustie asked.

"Um..what makes you say that?" I asked.

"The fact that you smiled and you looked away quickly. That's what you do every time you see him."

"Well what am I supposed to do? Ignore him?"

"No, just talk to him."

"I did." I mumbled out.

She didn't hear me, I guess, because she didn't respond. She just kept eating and complaining about how awful the food was. I would tell her about what happened. I mean she would be coming over soon, but there was really no need in telling her anyway. Nothing would ever even come of it. I mean we couldn't even talk normally without it feeling awkward. So I'm not going to worry about it.

We had a code not to lie to each other, so I wasn't going to lie. I would tell her, just not right away. Hopefully she wouldn't get too mad, hopefully.

Lame ending, I know, but that just happens sometimes. Hope ya'll are liking this story so far, though. I've got some great ideas for it! Love you guys xx
