21. Chapter Twenty-One – Classic Love Triangle

James’ POV:

I felt sick as I watched them work through that lesson. Like, physically ill. I couldn’t believe his luck! Stop being ridiculous, I’m not jealous, no way!

They laughed as something bubbled, and flopped from the pot onto the floor. Going to grab her wand from her bag, Andi managed to slip. Her face had a fleeting second of terror, as her legs went from under her; before I could jump to catch her, Paul was there. Of course he was; he wrap his arm around her and pulled her into a bear hug.

“Clumsy!” She tried protesting but collapsed into giggles and struggled feebly.

“Quick, it’s overflowing!” She squirmed out of his grip and to the cauldron so quickly that I had to blink to make sure it wasn’t an illusion. Yep, she was definitely there; stirring away crazily and muttering – wandless magic already? We weren’t supposed to do that until we were 17.

Suddenly her wand zoomed to her. Well, wandless magic was tiring and everything, so I guess she used one last bit to call her wand. She continued to mutter with her sweet little mouth, as her wand emitted sparks and light. I sighed and was shaken out of it by my partner, Olivia.

“James!” she squealed. She had a really high-pitched voice. Eugh; personally I prefer Andi’s regular voice.

“Okay everyone; start packing up,” Libby called. I wasn’t seriously watching her for the whole class was I? Yes, yes I was actually. I saw Paul say something and heard the cute tinkling laugh that Andi made. How dare he make her laugh? How dare he make MY girl laugh?

Okay, so if I said that I didn’t tell anyone about my crush on Elizabeth/Eliza/Lizzie/Ellie/Andi I would be lying. Sergi had heard me say something and he and the other boys had bullied it out of me. Paul and James and Sergio and Dan and Rupe KNEW that I liked E/E/L/E/A and whilst they had been good on their promise to not tell her, Paul seemed to have failed to keep the other: to not hook up with her but try to get her to like me.

Paul has had a girlfriend before so he knows how it feels; he had crushes too. Some girls don’t think it but yes, boys can have crushes. We even have feelings too! So I trusted Paul the most; I had whispered late night conversations with him (again, boys do do this) and I got the most relationship advice from him. Obviously he has quit as my wingman.

I saw her giggle again as she playfully slapped him on the arm. He pretended to frown and then wrapped her in a hug, trapping her body and pinning her arms to her sides.

“Hey!” she whined, giggling. He tickled her and she squealed, eliciting an annoyed glance from Libby.
