Ah... That faithful day... I remember it like it was yesterday...

This was the day we had been waiting for for months, our first hiking trip in years. The last one we had was in senior year of high school, and it had been far too long since then. Our plan was simple; we would pack our bags with only what we absolutely needed, then meet each other at the usual spot. It had been the place we'd meet after class, and even more recently, after work. I work at a graphic design studio, and she <insert career here>.

Anyways, we'd always meet at our local coffee bar, and I'd sit in the booth closest to the back door to the patio. I ordered my usual Mocha Espresso Coffee with whip cream and chocolate drizzle on it. It was absolutely delicious, as always, and I sat and waited for Venus to show up.

I recall pulling out a mini sketch pad, and I began drawing a feather. Line after line, after line, after line, after line! But by the time she got there, I had finished it! It was beautiful, with gold and silver streaks in it. Then again, it was a quick sketch, so I didn't pay much mind to it. Venus walked in, and sat down quickly.

"Well hey there! Somebody's excited." I said in my usual sarcastic tone. I waved the waiter, and she brought Venus' drink almost instantly. She knows exactly what she wants, after all, this used to be a usual stop for us. Too bad we stopped that tradition. It was honestly really nice just to unwind after a stressful day at work. I'm sure she could agree with me.

She smiled at the waiter and tipped her a dollar. "Thanks Becky." She turned to me and took off her glasses. "Back with the sarcasm, I see. You really don't change, do you Alex?" She laughed a little.

"Yeah..." I grabbed my pencil and started to write a to/from section in my feather drawing, obviously addressed to her from me. I looked up at her and dropped my pencil. I held it out to her, and she took it from me. Venus opened it, and she smiled really big at the sight of the feather.

"Hey! This is awesome. Thanks!" She folded it nicely and put it into her bag.

"No problem." I sipped my coffee, and my hair fringe fell into my face. I flipped it back into place, and then put some cash on the table for the waitress. "So, shall we head out on out hiking adventure?" I smiled at Venus.

"Sure, let's go. We should take your car; I'm almost out of gas myself."

"Alright. I stood up and pulled my bag onto the table, and tried to keep my 'contraband' a secret. Meanwhile, I did one final check of my bag, and seeing that I had everything, we took our drinks with us, and hopped in my car.

It was a Honda CR-Z, but it had a unique feature. The paint was a basic black, but it had special decals that were rainbow-like and were flames on the sides. There was also a top decal that read 'Take It As It Is'. That was one of my favorite sayings, as it showed that life is a roller coaster, and to just take it on head-first. I used to live by that rule, almost religiously. It was seriously my roots of thinking. But just as the sands do, times change.

I hopped into my car and threw our stuff into the back. We had packed small bags with only what we needed. However, to Venus' surprise, I had brought more than just-the-basics. But, that is not important.... Yet that is.

On the drive there, we talked about everything from work drama, to the good old days of high school. We drove for about 2 hours, and by the time we got to the site, it was already 5 in the afternoon. Dangit. We parked the car, and sat at the bottom of the mountain for a minute. The snow was biting my nose and fingers, so I urged to keep going.

We headed up the hill, and we saw the most beautiful bird ever, a peacock! It walked across our path, and we waited calmly for it to pass. However, me being the idiot I am, I tried to pet it, resulting in a scratch on my arm. Luckily it wasn't too deep, but it still really hurt. Ouch. Learn from my mistakes, guys. It's not pretty, and it hurts like 10 bee stings in a row. Who could thing such a pretty bird could be so ugly in nature? *sigh*....Anyways, it was really snowy so we basically looked like marshmallows walking on powdered sugar. A few times, I lost my footing, and I face-planted into the snow, making my face look like a snowman's! I will never forget those laughs...
