This guy pisses me off. Sougo thought bitterly, promptly fixating a glare on the prince. This act did not go unnoticed by the other occupants in the room. Secretly, Kagura snaked her leg behind her and kicked him hard in the shin, resulting in him lurching forward with a hiss.
"So, Hisashi-san, what do you like to do on your spare time?"
Kagura asked politely, fluttering her long lashes; only augmenting her undeniable beauty. Sougo didn't miss the red pigment that streaked across Hisashi's face within seconds. Looking down to see his princess' reaction, he nearly slammed her head into the costly table in front of her. She was incognizant of the fact that the prince's face was flushed red. Is she just blind? Is she even paying attention?!
"Oh, I-I like to walk around town and speak with my people."
What a horrible lie. To think the prince would tell falsehoods just to marry Hime.
"So you're a sociable man! How admirable. I'll like that part about you."
Suppressing the need to groan at her density, Sougo moved closer to her, eyeing the prince closely. This was a hard task to do furtively, being as he was told to stand tall behind the couch she was seated in.
"Oh, really? Thank you very much, Kagura-san."
Although her lack of discernment surprised him, Sougo knew she wasn't intent on marrying him. Heh, but she does a good job acting like it. He snickered under his breath.
"You're very welcome."
Realizing how boring this would be, he began to tentatively stroke her neck from behind, remembering how ticklish she was there from when they were sparring at the dojo. His false, wooden blade bumped her neck and she emitted a disturbing guffaw, one that casted a drawn-out silence over the room.
She bit back her laughter as he began adding pressure.
"K-Kagura-san, are you alright?"
Im going to die later... He thought as he lazily poked at her most sensitive spot. She snorted and Hisashi stood up in concern and walked over to her, taking her hand in his.
"Are you ill, my princess?"
Abruptly pausing his torture on her, he snapped his gaze to the prince. Did he just say 'his princess'? His hand twitched to push Hisashi away, but he knew he mustn't; if he wanted to keep his head.
"N-no I'm fine," she let out a shaky sigh, "My kimono was just poking at me. I'll rip it to shreds later."
Well that can't be good for me... Sougo thought nonchalantly, not necessarily caring about the lecture he was about to receive. Hey, I can stay with Hime longer. It was then that he noticed that the prince didn't release her hand. He clenched the golden hilt of his sword as it coruscated under the dim glow of the candle-lit chandelier. Furrowing his flaxen brows in annoyance, he calmly but firmly said,
"Hisashi-sama, the princess said she is of proper health. Please return to your original seat."
Knowing full-well of the prince's fear of him, he'd listen even if he's not the one he takes orders from. Such a manipulative prince.
"I think I should sit beside her. I am to be her husband, after all."
Sougo grit his teeth. This little... Summoning a sigh and putting on his most serene look, he said,
"I must be beside the princess at all times. That is why I exist. I cannot allow such a casualty that might result in her getting injured. Although the King and Queen trust you, I shall not."
The prince noticeably grew worried as Sougo loomed over him menacingly, a sinister aura emanating from him. He slowly released Kagura's hand and sat down across from her.
"I apologize on behalf of my knight for using such cold words, Hisashi-san."
He waved his hands in disagreement,
"N-No, it-it's quite alright, I understand his motives."
Damn straight you do. Don't touch her.
The meeting came to a close and Kagura gave him a kiss on the cheek as a farewell. Reentering the castle, she let out a much needed breath of relief.
"How tiring!"
"Kagura!"
Her eyes lit up in the presence of her father, Gintoki, who ruffled her hair when he reached her.
"Is something wrong, Gin-chan?"
The silver-locked male shook his head,
"Not at all. Ah, Souichirou, did Kagura behave today?"
"...It's 'Sougo' your majesty. And the princess was relatively tame."
Unlike the beast she really is.
"Well, then, Sofa. Take her back for her bath."
The knight had to refrain from choking on his breath.
"Wa-wait... Am I going in there as well?"
This earned him a hard smack on the head.
"Don't get overzealous now, Sofa."
Gintoki growled through gritted teeth, slinging his hand on the inside of his yukata, an old habit of his he has yet to drop.
"Such poor mannerisms will not go unpunished by your wife, your majesty,"
Sougo sneered, forgetting to not snort at the king's fumble to straighten his attire,
Playfully smacking him on the head once more, Gintoki walked off with the lazy wave of his hand as his goodbye.
"You're lucky he likes you."
Kagura grumbled, speedily making her way down the brightly-lit corridor.
"Ah, Kagura-chan!"
"Shinpachi!"
Oh the megane's here. Kagura nudged him, returning his attention to the twenty-year old man in front of him.
"How's it going, Meg- Shimura-san?"
His glasses gleamed under the candescent lighting and he slightly tilted his head down, revealing large obsidian pools. Sougo scanned his attire, scowling at the dirt and grime that manifested itself on the fabrics of his Hakama.
"Good to see you again, Okita-san! Good to know Kagura-chan hasn't gotten rid of you!"
Hmph. Not like she has a choice. Turning to his left to stare at her, he noted her withdrawn stare. Mouth hanging slightly agape, her naturally rose-tinted lips were almost entrancing. Sh*t. What's with this uncharacteristic state she's in?! Her cerulean depths swirled with inexplicable intent, and began to perspire much to his unwanted concern.
"So, Okita-san, do you?"
Instantaneously looking away from her, he massaged his temples in aggravation. Ugh. What was this Megane talking about?
"Uh... Yeah sure."
He flinched when the raven-haired man grabbed his sleeve and tugged him in the direction of the ballroom.
"You can't go, Okita."
Freezing on the spot, he turned to her, not bothering to erase the worry in his tone,
"Hime, are you alright?"
She stumbled forward and he accelerated over to her, allowing her to steady herself on his forearms. Jeez this girl...
"Th- One of.. The-the butler's... Poison.."
She managed to breathe out before slipping into unconsciousness. Sweat glazed her ivory skin, and her kimono hung loosely on her dainty shoulders. She began to suspire, and Sougo hoisted her over his shoulder before sharply muttering,
"Find the butler that did this, Megane."
Shinpachi tilted his head in confusion,
"Megane...?"

He gently placed her on the silken sheets of her bed, hushing the whimpers of her pet. He slowly removed her kimono, and used all of his willpower not to open his eyes whilst dressing her. A slight uncomfortable moan left her lips and he muttered an apology before opening his eyes to fix his mistakes. Holding her up firmly with on arm, he removed the garments that held her vermillion locks up and carelessly threw them to the ground with a clatter. Her long tresses cascaded passed her hip and pooled at the slight dip on the bed in which she sat. He released a shaky breath to hold on to the little bits of sanity he had. Eyeing her scarce attire, he removed his jacket and threw it on the couch. He contemplated calling a maid or butler to grab herbs, and soon shook his head, not able to trust anyone with such a dire task. I'll do it then.
"Sadaharu, watch her. Don't let anyone in."
The dog wagged its tail with utter determination. Sougo ran out the door and quickly but respectfully began walking to the family doctor. Giving the oak door two knocks, an old man stepped out, surprise on his aged features.
"Okita-sama! Is something wrong?"
"I'm in a hurry, sir. I need medicinal herbs for the princess. She was poisoned by one of the castle butlers."
Grasping the situation, he quickly grabbed three jars and handed it to him.
"Rip these up and put it in warm water. She'll feel better."
Nodding, he took all three in one hand and made a frantic sprint back. Sadaharu barked upon his return, and Sougo put a finger to his lips to silence him. Grabbing the kettle that rested on her desk, he filled it with steaming water, ripping up the rather pungent greenery before dropping it into the water.
"Sou- Sadist?"
Came her raspy voice. He poured the liquid into a smaller cup before bringing it to her lips.
"The doctor said you should drink this,"
He said tonelessly as her half-lidded eyes looked at him in suspicion.
"A butler poisoned me, how will adding an unfamiliar drink to the equation help me?"
He rolled his eyes impatiently,
"If you don't drink it, I'll kiss you."
She grew visibly tense as her eyes widened with shock. Before muttering,
"Ill kill you if you even dare. What good will that even do?"
Sougo shrugged before he once again presented the drink to her lips, nodding his head to clarify it was the lone choice she had. Tapping her shoulder to indicate her to sit up, she reluctantly obeyed, leaning forward for him to prop another pillow behind her. With hesitant hands, she took the cup before immediately pushing it into his chest. Which, although clothed, was only hidden behind a thin dress shirt.
"Hime, it's f*cking hot. What the hell are you doing?"
He growled.
Groaning in disgust, she balked and rescinded her hand, holding it close to her face. Its sickening scent filled the room and now even he was beginning to feel ill from its effects. She better not change her mind again. He watched with dead eyes as she angled the cup upwards before swiftly bringing it down again, its contents still filled it to the brim. For the love of... Removing it from her hand, he gulped it into his mouth, holding it in his cheek. As her mouth hung open in shock, he launched at her, pressing his lips against hers and emptying the liquid in her mouth. After he was certain she drank it, he pulled away, a smirk plastered on his face.
"For such a grotesque-looking girl, you have soft lips."
Her face visibly reddened, and he knew it wasn't from the poison.
"I'm going to kill you, Sadist."
She hissed out before drowsiness overtook her and she collapsed on her pillows. Flashing Sadaharu a thumbs up, he grabbed his jacket before silently escaping her bedroom. Leisurely walking down the hall, he shrugged, Well... It was definitely worth it.
