"Okay, run me through this one more time?"
I chuckle at this.
"My wife is Vanessa, and my son is Sebastian. He's two, and is obsessed with Chuggington. I'm a little hooked on it as well, if I'm honest. Also, I've been texting Vanessa and telling her you would be coming. So, just a fair warning-"
"She's not gonna like me." Gen guesses, and i shake my head.
"No! No, bello, she's gonna love you! I was just gonna say that she can get a little excited sometimes." She nods, and I notice how uneasy she seems. "You don't need to be so nervous, Genesis. It's okay, V is gonna love you!" She smiles slightly and nods. "Ready?" She nods again, and I go to push the door open.
"Wait." Her voice stops me, and I look at her. "Lin, my... My bruises, they're really visible, and-"
"Hey." I cut in, stopping her. I place my hands on her shoulders, and she looks at the floor. "Look at me." Hesitantly, she looks me in the eyes. "It's okay. Your bruises are eventually going to fade. And as for right now, i don't want you to worry about them. It's okay, Vanessa isn't going to care. It's truly okay, Gen." She nods when i smile reassuringly.
"Okay." She says, and i open the door. When she's inside as well, i close it behind her.
"Lin?" Vanessa calls from our room. "Is that you?"
"Yeah, V." I call back. Sebastian is staying with my parents for this week (Grandparents, right?), so Gen is just meeting Vanessa for now. Vanessa comes out of our room and Gen stiffens next to me, so i put my arm around her shoulders. "Gen, this is Vanessa, my wife. V, this is Genesis."
"H-Hi." Gen mumbles, and Vanessa smiles.
"Hi, Gen, it's very nice to meet you."
"You too."
"You have such a beautiful name. I wish mine was that cool."
"Thanks. Vanessa is a really nice name as well." Vanessa smiles at this.
"Thank you." She says, and Gen turns to me.
"Is it okay if i use the bathroom?" She asks me.
"Yeah, of course." I reply. "It's down the hall, second door on the left." She nods and walks off. When I hear the door close, I let out a breath.
"She's so sweet." Vanessa says, and i nod.
"Yeah, she really is." I say. "Listen, during dinner tonight, just know that Gen has trouble eating."
