CHAPTER V
After getting paid, the taxi driver sped of leaving a mixture of dust and smoke in the air. I stood there staring at the entrance of my current destination: RICHMOND BOARDING HIGH SCHOOL.
I closed my eyes thinking, this is it Amber, this is what you needed, what you deserve, what you want. You can't start a new chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one. Keeping this thought in mind, I opened my eyes now thinking over a whole new subject, will the other kids accept me after all that I have been through? What if they had read my name in the news paper when the "incident" happened? Would they still accept me?? I mean don't get me wrong, I am a tough person but there are times in everybody's lives when they feel insecure. Well, that time in my life was right now.
Taking a deep breath, I took one step inside the campus in slow motion. Acting as if I was in some kind of a movie I started walking sloooowly, yet with style like an actor, or an actress in my case, towards the reception area. Coz you know according to me there is some certain kind of happiness in being silly and ridiculous. I was still pretending that I was in a movie when a voice broke me from my reverie.
"Did you get a cramp or something?" asked a girl who was standing behind me, she looks to be around my age.
"Nope. Don't have no cramp. Why do you ask?" I asked, while taking in her features. She was really pretty actually.
"then why were you limping?"she asked looking rather annoyed. I think she was annoyed because I was walking really slowly and probably might have been blocking her path the whole time.
Apparently my idea of walking stylishly and limping are two very same things.
"I wasn't limping. I was just merely day dreaming." I replied.
"Oh, so you day dream like this?" She asked while doing a horrible imitation of me by acting like a person who was limping which was nothing compared to as what I was doing, I think. I don't know, maybe, if I did walk like that all the way here I would have definitely made an amazing fist impression. Note the sarcasm.
"I didn't walk anything like that. You are just a horrible actor." I replied jokingly.
"I try." She shrugged. "I am Amber, Amber Chance." I held out my hand for her.
"Chloe Armel." She replied while shaking my extended had. She had one firm grip. Chloe had black wavy sort of hair tied in a ponytail and she had the whole, don't mess with me or you are goin down, look going on.
"You new here?" She inquired while bending to tie her shoe lace. She was in fact panting a bit which meant that she had been jogging before she was interrupted by my oh so awesome slow walk.
"Yeah. I was actually headed to the reception. But I don't know which way it is. You mind pointing out the direction for me?"
"Just follow me, I was actually headed right there, myself." She walked us into a very small building which looked like an office.
"So Chloe, you are in which year?" I asked her as I started following her.
"Tenth grade. And you?" She asked while taking a right and nodding to some of the people on the way.
"Same here. So how is the student body over here?"
"Our student body is like totally cliché. We have everything ranging from bitchy cheerleaders to the quite nerds and then from jocks to the normal people. And of course we also have....... BAD BOYS!!" she said the last part in a mysterious tone with the look of suspense on her face. "Just out of curiosity, you are not like those bitchy cheerleader type of person, are you?" she asked turning her head towards me with dead seriousness. I cringed at her choice of words. I am not a swearing type of person. In fact I HATE swearing.
Either way I answered her, "Don't worry, I am not." Relief washed over her face.
"so are there any teachers I should be warned about?" I asked.
"Most of the teachers are pretty cool but the others are really weird." She replied while taking another right turn. This small building is not so small after all. Man this building is big. Finally, after a few more turns, we reached the reception area.
The receptionist lady looked like she was 20 years old but upon asking Chloe I found out that she was 40. She looked really pretty. She had a motherly face and the smell of cinnamon was getting stronger as we were nearing her. The badge on her coat read: GENELIA GONZALVIS
"Hiya, Gen." Chloe greeted with a warm smile on her face.
"Chloe, nice to see you too. My, haven't you gotten taller. The last time I saw you were over four months or something, I think. It has been a long time since you came to see me." Gen replied with a frown o her face
"I am so sorry, I was just really busy with other stuff." Chloe replied sheepishly.
"Humph!!"
"Oh, and here is Amber, the new student." I extended my hand towards her and she shook it with her soft and warm one's. We chatted for a few minutes and then she gave me my file which contains my schedule, ID card, room number and all those other details that I will be needing.
"Now don't you forget to visit me once your school starts up and Chloe come visit me any time when you need help regarding that Jake Parker boy." Gen winked when she said the last part at Chloe. And Chloe grinned mischievously at her and winked back. We thanked her and started walking away to a bench nearby where we could check out my file.
I didn't ask Chloe who Jake Parker was as I didn't want to intrude in her personal space. Maybe he was her boyfriend or something.
Me and Chloe found a seat and I eagerly opened my file. The first paper was filled with rules of the school. For instance:
1. Curfew for the students is at 9 o'clock sharp, students found outside of their respective villas will be sent into detention.
2. All students are required to wear I.D. cards at all times.
3. Students caught skipping classes will be given detention.
4. Use of alcohol is prohibited on school grounds. Students found with alcohol will be given suspension.
5. Students found partying in their respective villas will be expelled.
6. If students are to celebrate any occasion they are free to book the party hall beforehand.
7. Students to sleep in their own rooms at all times.
And the list went on till at least 30 rules. The second paper consisted of my study schedule and my villa number. Wait, villa number?
"What is this villa number for?? Aren't we staying in normal dormitories?" I asked Chloe who was reading my study schedule.
"This boarding school is slightly different and advanced than the other boarding schools." She said with a hint of pride in her tone.
She continued explaining to me more about how the school works. "The whole campus is divided into two: east and west. On the east side is where the girls sections is and the west is where the boys section is. Meaning the guy's have their villas on the west and the girl's have their villas in the east. In the middle of the two campus is the main school building along with the entertainment centre. The entertainment centre is like teen heaven. It's really cool. It has literally everything from a swimming pool to a big library, from the party hall to the enormous football court, basketball court, arcade etc. The villas, where you will be staying, are made to look just like any other American street, with streets, parks, and different blocks. Each villa is occupied by three students. The girls and guys have different villas, of course, but we share the entertainment centre. The school is held in the main building and the teachers have different arrangements for their living." She explained patiently while I caught on. I must say that I was really impressed.
"So anyways which villa number did you get?"she asked me.
"Villa number 30."
"30 or 13"
"30"
"Well looks like we will be seeing each other a lot now, huh, roomy?"
