"The man you're looking for is a Devil."
Luke's voice rang inside Ashton's head, making the Angel's stomach hurl. He pursed his lips and started flying again, trying to clear his mind. It had been two hours since he had left Jasmine's apartment and he was still struggling to accept the facts.
The man he was here to find was a Devil, a high ranked Demon whose purpose was to ruin human souls. And the worst thing is that Calum, the innocent young boy Ashton had promised to help, was playing him all this time.
Luke wasn't wrong, like the man had originally thought. The two of them went to their headquarters and looked up Calum's file and sure enough, everything the Cupid had found was spot on. Long story short, after Calum was murdered his boyfriend Michael got depressed and made it his life purpose to find the killers. When the two men were found, Michael had almost lost his mind because the police told him they had alibi and they couldn't arrest them. The boy was so blinded with his fury that he had willingly sold his soul in exchange of winning powers that made him able to torture his boyfriend's killers until they died from the pain. After that Michael was officially announced a Demon and had worked for Darkness ever since.
As for Calum, the boy had been watching everything and much to everyone's horror, he had helped Michael twice to avoid getting killed. He was later asked to leave Heaven's Realms because he had literally helped the enemy and not come back until he came to his senses. Ever since Calum has been aimlessly wandering around, trying to contact the Devil.
Ashton shook his head. He had been so blind! There were so many signs and he had refused to see any of them! Ever since he started talking to Calum about Michael, the boy had been dropping hints to him but he was just that stupid. Lord, how angry he was with himself.
It all made sense to him now. Why Calum was transmitted to Earth after all these years, why no one helped him before now. His biggest question, how it was possible for Michael to survive all this time without his love was now answered and the Angel wished he had never wondered about it.
And Calum.. Calum was so smart. He dogged all of their questions without lying, simply by saying things like 'Michael never died'. Of course he never died! The guy sold the only thing that has a value in this world in exchange of immortality!
The Guide's head felt ready to explode. His blood pressure was rising the more he thought about it. He couldn't believe he was tricked by a damn teenager!
"Ashton?"
His train of thoughts crashed and the man stopped flying, turning around to meet the person he heard. He was so occupied with his thoughts he hadn't even sensed the new presence. He wore a half-sincere smile. "Hello Marissa."
The brunette girl grinned at him. "Long time no see, Ash." She said happily. Marissa was Jasmine's roommate and friend and she had met Ashton a couple of times over the years. She liked the lad and had a deep respect for his job. "How are you doing?"
Ashton pursed his lips together, trying to think of a way to send her away without being rude. The Vigil had done nothing wrong but he really wasn't in the mood for chit-chat. "It's been a long day, Marissa. I'm sorry."
She didn't seem fazed at all. "Yes, I'm aware. Jasmine contacted me a while ago and told me what happened."
The Guide's face twisted at the mention of his wife. He was mad at her for taking Calum's side. He was her husband, for Lord's sake! "Aha." He hummed in acknowledgment.
