Charlotte stirred her tea smiling at Scott.
He smiled back before taking a bite off his sandwich. His stomach always got so loud and demanding when he was hungover, he sounded and felt like a pregnant woman. His head kept throbbing so hard he could hardly put up with regular restaurant noises, even though it was a very familiar area for him. His nausea was making him want to puke at the thought of anything edible, but he knew his sandwich would make him feel better.
They talked through breakfast and Scotts hangover started to fade between food and conversation. The ginormous cup of coffee and aspirin also helped the headache go away.
Taking one of the tables on the porch was a good idea. The cool breeze soothed the pounding in his ears the headache had caused.
His face was buried in his plate trying not to think too hard about what Harriet had said about Charlotte and how mad Lena must have gotten after seeing Charlotte open the door without pants on.
"She'll give me hell before she even thinks of actually talking to me again!" He though silently before biting off and swallowing without even chewing much.
He didn't remember sleeping with Charlotte but, Could he trust she was telling him the truth?
She'd never been sneaky around him before. He knew she had a reputation among the café employees, but she had always been thoughtful and caring around him.
Scott had a hard time seeing her any other way.
He heard her giggle as he devoured his super cheesy, double bacon, double ham, egg sandwich.
"Uh... Scotty..." She reached over to wipe mustard off his cheek and he smiled at her gesture.
"She's always looking after me..." Scott thought and a smile escaped him. Charlotte smiled back and blushed.
"You're such a mess!" She stated giggling.
He had a lot of questions in mind. Charlotte was so nice to him he just didn't understand why every girl he knew hated her.
"Why do you hate Harriet and Lena so much?" He thought out loud without noticing.
"I don't. They don't like me! They're always glaring and judging... Plus, they're always taking advantage of you and you know it. Harriet snapped at the new guy because you weren't there to tell him she's a vegan. Like she's not weird enough already!" Charlotte snapped rapidly. - "Took her that much to realize you're the reason she always gets her orders just as she asked."
"Whoa! She snapped at him?"
"Uh huh... And Lena's just taking advantage of the whole dating you thing to be late and leave work early. She doesn't really care for you." She reached to hold his hand.
Scott stared into space zoning out trying to put the pieces together. - "You think?"
Lena couldn't be that cold! He knew she genuinely liked him. He saw it in her face the night he kissed her.
"She told me!" Charlotte confirmed.
"I thought she really liked me. I mean Harriet said... And the night we went out she... I..."
"Harriet's only looking after her cousins interests and getting special treatment at your shop for being weird!"
Scott looked into Charlotte's eyes and smiled at her.
"I suppose you do make sense" he held her hand back - "Thank you for looking after me all of the time. You're so good to me."
Charlotte blushed and brushed her fingers through his hair softly.
"You deserve a girl that really cares for you, Scotty." She kissed his cheek and hugged him firmly. Scott hugged her back and brushed a lock of her hair off her face.
"I'm going to be a little too forward guessing you mean you"
Charlotte nodded and smiled nervously.
"I don't know, Charlotte... I really think I should talk to Lena first and be sure where I am with her first..."
Charlotte rolled her eyes biting her tongue.
He stuttered for a second trying to put all of this new information together until he thought he had made up his mind.
"How about we skip work today and go on a date, then?" Scott stated.
"Sounds like a date!"
