B e f o r e

Standing in front of my locker, I was prepping myself to see him. To see his arrogant smirk and bright blue eyes. Stuffing books into my locker I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist with a strong grip.

“Hey baby,” His voice was a quiet whisper in my ear. His teeth nibbling on the lobe.

I barely mumble a hello before I’m back to taking and putting books into my locker. As I shut it close Andrew takes his arms from my waist and throws it around my shoulder as we walk down the hallway to my next class. Andrew liked to take me to every class safely. Not that he hasn’t done enough damage. When he finally lets go of me and presses his lips to forehead I head into the class and take my usual seat in the back row.

As the class goes on I zone in and out barely being able to comprehend the information being given. The teacher’s voice is like a quiet lullaby hushing me to unconsciousness.

“Ms. Lexington would you like to answer that question for us please.” Mrs. Gold’s voice has an attitude to it that was not needed.

I slump in my seat and bow my head to cover my blush. Mrs. Gold continues her lesson not calling on me for the rest of the period.

By lunch I am exhausted and most defiantly do not want to see him. Andrew is like stars, you don’t always see them but they are always there. Day or night, light or dark and I hate that.

Andrew first asked me out in sophomore year I had politely declined but then my friends had pestered me for months about how cute we would be together. When he had the courage to ask again I had graciously accepted and here we are now. He had always had a temper and had only hit me once and I forgave him. If I of thought it would lead to this I would have never of said yes.

Instead of having to sit next to all of my so called friends and act like a perfect girlfriend for the star quarterback I decided to skip. Just get in my car and go but I had no clue where.

That’s when I realized I was running. Running from everything and I couldn’t do that so I went to where only the school junkies go. People like Andrew and Grace, one of my so called friends, would never even bother looking for me here. It was like a safe haven, my safe haven.

Once I push open the door a cold breeze pushes past me and I feel like I can breathe. There’s a coil in my chest that feels just a little bit looser, I feel free.

There’s graffiti along the brick walls on the school. Some of it profanity and some just beautiful artwork that should be put in a museum.

I’ve never been to this part of the school before. Andrew is very controlling and never let me do anything that would ruin my-his image and being with the school outcasts is part of that.

“Hey!” I look around to see who was shouting at whom.

“Hey you! Barbie Doll over here.” Were they talking to me? I was so confused.

I turn around to see who was calling. The breeze causing a shiver to run down my spine but I ignored it trying to find out this so called Barbie Doll is. There is a pair of bright green eyes staring me down as if I were a criminal who had just committed a crime. I now I don’t look that bad. Not best under the circumstances but I’ve managed. Andrew didn’t seem to notice my grotesque look this morning so I didn’t have much to worry about.

“You know for a Barbie Doll you look like shit.” His blunt statement caught me off guard. He was pretty tall for a boy- more like man, his age. With those green eyes he could cause any woman to drop to her knees. But I just giggled. It was refreshing to meet a person who frankly just didn’t give a damn.

“My name is lllyse.” Wow. Is that all I could come up with?

“My name is Jason.” Jason was staring at me and I him. This is weird.

“Are you just gonna stand there lllyse or are you gonna come and meet my friends?
