S-Class Trials! ✔️

Your POV

Master announced the beginning of the S-Class trials. Honestly I didn't know what they were so I asked Cana.

"What are the S-Class trials?" I whispered to her as everyone was conversing amongst themselves excitedly.

"S-Class trials are trials held to determine the strongest of the guild, there's numerous of tests held and only a specific few get to even participate." She explained. I nodded to signal I understood and started thinking.

Even though I was still pretty new, I've gone on a few jobs and Erza did say my magic was quite strong, but I doubt I'll be chosen...

"The participants of this year are... Erza Scarlet, Mira Strauss, Y/n Marvell, and Laxus Dreyer. Pick your partners and train. You have two weeks before we start. Good luck!" The master said from his spot, leaving soon after.

I was shocked "W-What? I was chosen?" I asked in complete awe. I hadn't even been a member long, why would master pick me?

Cana looked sad but still smiled encouragingly. "Congrats! I can't wait to see who your partner is." She said. Although I could tell she was disappointed she wasn't chosen.

I punched her arm playfully. "Obviously you're my partner dummy." I said teasingly. I obviously couldn't pick Erza and she was the person I was closest to other than her. Or course I'd pick her.

Her eyes widen in surprise, a glint of excitement and disbelief in her eyes.

"R-Really? You mean it?" She asked, her eyes getting glossy.

I smiled at her with my eyes closed "Of course! You are my best friend after all." I said happily, she hugged me tightly. Squealing in excitement.

"Thank you Y/n! I won't let you down! I'll help you become an S class Wizard I promise!" She said determinedly. I hugged her back.

"Now... Let's get training!" I said dragging her outside. Jax was our 'coach' and he made us do pushups, sit ups, run laps, swim in the ocean, work on attacks that would be useful in battle, helped us quicken our reflexes and made sure he had a balanced and healthy diet. We trained hard and even had a sleeping schedule. Who would've thought Jax was such a great coach?

By the end of the two weeks we were practically power houses. Although my muscles were still sore, I felt like I had improved.

The next day all the S-Class trial participants and their partners stood outside the guild. The rest of the members were surrounding us with an excited look in their eyes. Clearly eager to see what kid would become an S Class Wizard.

I took the time we had to observe and look at everyone's partners. I took note of any weaknesses I remembered that we could use to our advantage. We didn't wait long as Gramps came outside soon after I was done.

"Alright brats, let's see what we have here. Mira with Lisanna, Erza with Natsu, Laxus with Freed (just imagine he's here right now ok?) and last but not least Y/n with Cana." He said writing down our names on a clipboard.

We all looked at him expectedly. He seemed to sense our anticipation and only grinned. Almost maliciously. What could possibly be in store for us?

"First task is having an all-out battle. You and your partner will fight an opponent and their partner. The winner has to fight the winner of the other battle." Gramps informed a bit confusingly but I think I understand.

"First up Y/n and Cana against... Laxus and Freed." He said. Cana and I shared a look and then we turned to our opponents. Laxus smirked down at me. Clearly underestimating me. I glared at him from where I stood. He's going to regret that.

"We got this Y/n!" Cana said determinedly, her hand in a fist as she observed Freed carefully. I nodded and smiled.

"Yes. We do."

The rest of the contestants went and joined the audience giving us space. Laxus and Freed stared us down as we stood in front of each other.

I took a deep breath. Feeling the tension. I knew I had to get rid of Freed first so we could focus on Laxus. But I continued glaring at Laxus so I wouldn't give away my plan.

"BEGIN!" Gramps said with a booming voice. That seemed to trigger the battle as Laxus immediately pounced at me. I was momentarily surprised but managed to dodge. He rolled on the ground and stood up again.

"A surprise quick attack huh? Did you think that would work?" I said tauntingly, not letting my guard down. He growled and pounced again.

Expecting it this time, I bent my knees and dodged again. With the force of his own attack, he accidentally slammed into the ground and was disoriented. I took the opportunity to shoot an attack towards Freed who was distracted with Cana.

"Sky dragon ROAR!" I said, sending a strong wind attack. Freed not expecting me to attack while being busy with Laxus lost his footing, flying into the wall behind him. Cana took this as an opportunity and used her cards to create bindings. Effectively restraining him.

However I underestimated the amount of time Laxus would be distracted as I was hit with a lighting strike from the back. I cried out in pain and was flung into the wall next to Freed. A serious of gasps followed.

"Y/n!" Cana called out worriedly. I groaned a bit out of the pain but quickly regained my composure.

"I'm ok! Don't let your guard down!" I called out. Standing up. I glared at Laxus. He was smiling smugly, proud of his sneak attack.

With his focus on me, Cana threw her cards at him, but his reflexes kicked in and he jumped up, dodging the attack. But he was vulnerable in the air. That was my domain.

With a smirk I manipulated the wind to keep him in the air. He noticed he was stuck and panic struck his expression. I activated my shadow dragon mode. Melting into the shadows. A second later lightning struck where I was standing before, leaving a mark on the ground. I saw Laxus scowling, annoyed I had avoided being hit.

Cana flung her cards at him suddenly, and since he was stuck in the air all he could do was block it with his arms. The moment he lowered them I struck, appearing seemingly out of nowhere, my fist engulfed in a shadow.

"Shadow Dragon Iron Fist!" I said, and in a blink of an eye my fist connected with his face. We both went flying to opposite sides due to the impact. But I was mostly unharmed. Laxus on the other hand was on the ground. Knocked out.

There was a pregnant silence before everyone erupted into cheers. I blinked a little bit in disbelief until it hit me. I turned to Cana excitedly.

"We did it Cana! We did it!" I said hugging her out of joy. She laughed and we jumped around in celebration.

"Y/n and Cana pass to the Second Round!" Gramps announced, another round of cheers was heard.

Cana grinned at me. "Thank you for choosing me again." She said gratefully. I only smiled and nodded.

"That was amazing Y/n!" Someone said proudly, hugging me tightly. I saw scarlet red hair and smiled.

"Thanks Erza!"

"Alright then, now round two!" Master announced. Cana finally let Freed go and we returned to the audience, clearing the space.

I saw Freed and another guild member pick up Laxus and take him inside. Probably into the infirmary. I felt guilty for a second but then remembered it was only one harsh attack and he kind of deserved it. I brushed off the feeling of guilt and focused on the next round.

Next was Erza vs Mira. Ironic.

We watched Lissana and Natsu battle, as Erza and Mira had their separate battle. It was very intense and for a moment I was wondering if we should be worried for the guild hall. But in the end Erza won. Thanks to Natsu's surpise attack after he beat Lissana, Mira was successfully distracted and that allowed Erza to deliver the final blow. I expected nothing less and smiled proudly as they announced her the winner.

Now Erza's team was against mine.

I gulped nervously. In terms of raw power we were evenly matched, this will be an interesting match.

"Now, will Y/n's partner and Erza's partner step forward?" Gramps said confusing me, why would he call them?

Everyone looked equally confused so this was probably a first time thing.

"You will both battle it out. The winner gets to assist their partner while the loser leaves their partner at a disadvantage of 2 against 1." He said, an evil glint in his eyes. Everyone's eyes widened at the information in surprise. I guess this was a new twist.

I smiled at Cana trying to be encouraging. But really I was worried, Natsu was a dragon slayer like me. I don't think this will end well.

Both of the stepped up and faced each other. At the Master's signal, they both pounced into action.

Erza and I stood next to each other and observed. Cana kept throwing water cards at him but Natsu's quick agility and reflexes made them useless attacks as he simply dodged them. She switched it up and resorted to fire instead, but Natsu only ate the attacks to everyone's bewilderment. He started throwing his own attacks at her making her dodge and have a harder time using her cards. Eventually, Cana was tired and didn't dodge his fire dragon roar. She let out a yelp and I winced as she hit the ground. Unconscious.

"And the winner is Natsu!" Everyone cheered and I rushed to Cana's side. I smiled at her and she slowly opened her eyes.

"Thank you for getting me this far. I won't lose. I'll become an S Class wizard!." I told her as she nodded tiredly. Some guild members came up and carried her away. Determination sparked within me as I stared at my next opponents.

"Sorry Erza. But I'm not holding back. This is a battle I can't afford to lose."

Both Natsu and Erza had the same look I did. Neither of us was going to give up easily. And I was at an extreme disadvantage.

"Now for the final battle... BEGIN!"

Almost immediately I melted into the shadows, since knowing Natsu, he'd try to attack as soon as possible. My theory was proven correct as a fire dragon wing attack hit the now empty space I was in.

Natsu and Erza stood back to back scanning the surroundings carefully looking for me. However I was underneath them. I let my hands materialize and grabbed both of them by the ankles, and dragged them with me as I moved to the opposite side.

They both let out a startled yell before I fully arose from the shadow and sent both of them flying to the wall. Cheers praised my attack as I stood in a defensive position. Erza quickly stood up and sent 10 swords flying my way, I jumped up dodging them all. Using my sky magic to manipulate the air, I remained there and sent two orbs of wind and shadow fused together. Each seemingly aimed at Erza but they changed direction at the last second hitting Natsu instead.

He wasn't expecting the attack so they hit him full force. He stumbled to the ground and I flew towards him, kicking him in the gut. He groaned in pain and held his stomach. I jumped over him and attempted to kick Erza as well but she caught it and sent me flying again. But I quickly regained my balance. Erza requipped into her most powerful armor and sent more weapons towards me, I repeated the last move but this time they were expecting it, Natsu managed to hit me with an attack but I somehow blocked it. While my vision was blocked by my arms, Erza hit me with the blunt end of her sword. My vision went black for a second as my head started spinning.

I fell harshly to the ground, I stood up a little bit after clearly disoriented. But still in the fight. I took a deep breath and regained my vision. I guess I had no choice.

I focused on my magic energy and built it up. An aura surrounding me. I kept a careful eye on both Erza and Natsu but they both just stood there, cautious of what I was doing.

On my right hand a ball of shadow began building up in size, on my left was a ball of air. The wind started blowing harshly against us.

"Shadow Dragon and Sky Dragon Fusion!" I yelled out, interlacing my hands and causing both balls to intertwine and turn into one. The ball was now a pretty good size and I lifted my arm and flung it with all my strength. The ball started travelling towards the targets with lightning quick speed. A bright light engulfed the scene and even I had to cover my eyes. When the dust cleared, there was a small crater on the ground. And both Natsu and Erza's unconscious figures laid there.

There was a shocked silence and I panicked. Had I gone overboard?

"The winner and newest S Class Wizard is Y/N Marvell!" Gramps announced. Everyone rushed to congratulate me and pat me on the head. I smiled proudly. Even if I had just joined recently I still became an S Class Wizard.

I hope you're watching over me right now WindSeeker, I hope I made you proud.

I went to check on Natsu and Erza and they were now awake, sitting on the ground with some dirt scratches and bruises but mostly unharmed. I approached them with a sheepish expression.

"Sorry guys I think that was a bit much." I apologized but was surpised to hear Natsu's laughter as a reply.

"Are you kidding me!? That was AWESOME!" He said excitedly, a huge grin on his face. I stared at him in surprise but smiled back nonetheless.

"I'm proud of you Y/n. You've grown so much." Erza said, patting me on the head. I giggled and nodded.

After a bit, we all went inside and settled down. I went into the infirmary to check on Cana.

I walked in to see Freed next to Laxus' bed while Laxus was bandaged up, when he noticed I walked in he immediately glared at me. I only gave him a small smile in response and he stared at me surprised. I walked past his bed to Cana. She had some scratches and Band-Aids but looked fine.

"Cana! I did it! I'm an S Class Wizard." I told her, sitting down on the foot of her bed.

Her face lit up and she immediately congratulated me. We both laughed and smiled. I told her it was all thanks to her and couldn't have done it without her. I let her rest after and Gramps let me know I was now officially allowed on the second floor. Which I obviously rubbed into Natsu's face. I mean who wouldn't? Lissana congratulated me as well.
A few years passed and Erza, Laxus and Mira were now S-Class. Just like me. We all grew closer (with the exception of Laxus) and even went on a few jobs together.

Lissana became a close friend of mine other than Natsu, Cana, Gray and Erza. Mira and I always fought and butted heads but I could tell I was warming up to her.

Jax finally could carry me while flying which is great because in the years I developed motion sickness like Natsu. It was hell to be on any train.

Cana was chosen for S-Class a few times but she hasn't managed to rank up yet. And Natsu hatched Happy with Lissana. Who was also a flying kitty like Jax. I would have helped but at that time I was in an S-Class mission with Erza and Jax.

Happy and Jax became best friends almost immediately I was so happy! (Haha get it? No? Ok...)

Natsu, Happy, Jax and I became sort of a team and went on lots of jobs together. Although I never let him come on the S Class ones no matter how much he begged.

One day, Mira approached me with a weird request. Little did I know this was going to be one of the most traumatic moments of my life.
