2.2 - Wayward Emotions
~ Niall ~

I observe the surrounding area again, trying to figure out where Robyn could be hiding if she is still here.

Something on the fallen tree catches my attention and my eyes narrow slightly to spot a mud paw print on the trunk. She didn't.

A frown slips on my face and I look across at Jackson. "Am I the only one seeing this?" I mind-link him.

Jackson stares back at me. "There's definitely a paw print there if that's what you are referring to," Jackson replies.

"Who would climb a tree randomly in wolf form?"

"No one, unless they're hiding."

I look back at the tree as Jackson looks back towards the clearing. The other wolf breathing is still nearby, I know that much.

"Trix threw a rock at me," Cian mind-links me in an attempt to gain sympathy.

I look in the direction they are with a smirk before turning my attention back to the tree. My nose dips to the tree and I sniff the paw print to catch Robyn's faint scent of nutmeg with the small dash of cinnamon. Automatically Fleck smirks slightly as he realises Robyn must have passed this way to hide.

The breathing adjusts and I still, wanting to determine what they are doing. It moves, the breathing becoming slightly quieter.

You need to go up the tree. Fleck states.

There's no way in Hell. I reply.

Test the weight. It will support you.

I put my front paws on the trunk of the fallen tree, testing the weight like Fleck suggested.

"What are you doing?" Jackson mind-links me.

I look across at him rather than at my front paws on the tree. "Testing the weight. Fleck said we need to go up there," I reply.

"He seriously thinks she's up there?"

"Apparently."

"Can the tree take your weight?"

"Probably."

"You don't sound too sure."

"I'm not. Did you want to go up instead? I found Di so technically we could do a swap?" I ignore Fleck's growl in my head at my supposedly 'stupid' suggestion according to him.

"She's your mate. Shouldn't you be looking for her instead of leaving it to another male to do it for you?"

The growl rips out of my throat this time instead of through my head.

How dare he say that after that memory we went through.

Fleck pushes my control and then makes us stand on the trunk before backing off again. I don't trust this. "Jac, please do this. I'm not sure on this," I mind-link.

"Then why are you stood on the tree?" Jackson replies.

"Because Fleck made me."

"So?"

"I don't feel safe stood here but I need to know if she's safe."

"Then go."

"Isn't it better for Jac to go up because of the damage to Niall's ears which in turn affects his wolf's balance?" Ethan asks making us look round at him.
