After dinner, Gordon suggested the pool, and the others except Virgil and John all followed suit immediately, as it was unusually warm for Tracy Island. Crystal lagged after, a bit nervous.

Gordon was already doing laps in a stellar show of butterfly. Alan and Kayo were treading water at one end of the pool, Alan muttering something under his breath that sounded like, "Showoff." Kayo was just floating next to him in one of her rare moments of inactivity. Likewise, Scott was floating lazily at the other end. It had been a long day for him.

Crystal walked to the edge of the pool, not sure what to do. Alan beckoned to her, and Kayo looked up, an inviting smile lighting her face up. Crystal grinned back gratefully and slid into the water, relishing the advancing coolness of it as she immersed herself.

"Lady Summers, care for a swim?" Gordon Tracy shook his wet hair out of his eyes, splashing Alan in the process.

"A very brisk swim," Alan chortled.

Crystal raised her eyebrows, "Is that a challenge?"

"I sense a competition!" Scott called out, swimming over, "Though there is no way you can beat Gordon."

"I know that perfectly well," Crystal shrugged, "But it will be fun, and after all there's no shame losing to the youngest Olympic champion who still holds the record for butterfly."

Gordon flashed her a toothy grin, "Is that a yes?"

Crystal merely smirked and set off at a great pace without warning.

"Hey! That's not fair!" Gordon protested, but launched himself after her with another splash.

Virgil and John joined a moment later. John had been declared fit and was no longer fettered by his sling.
"They're racing," Kayo announced laconically.

"I can see that," Virgil murmured, "She's fast."

Of course, Gordon had the satisfaction of winning again, but by a relatively close margin. "You're good," he had to admit.

Crystal merely smiled, a bit short of breath. She'd passed his test.

One could say her joining International Rescue and becoming part of the family was going swimmingly.
