As Sharon led him down the hall to an elevator Dex tried to gather as much of his surroundings as he could so he would know where to go if he managed to escape. It was difficult for him however since his head was strapped down to the gurney.
His back was still throbbing with an electrifying pain from his broken wing. He started seeing black in the corners if his vision. "No no no... Calm down. Easy.. Breathe." Now was not the time time to lose it. All that would do is get him even more hurt.
As the elevator lowered Dex counted the seconds in his mind. Maybe that could help him determine how far down they were. He only knew it was down because he was able to see Sharon press the down key beside the doors.
Dex had never actually been inside an elevator, only read about them. In all the books however, music was a common trait. There was no music in this elevator, only the groaning of the wires as the elevator crawled to the solitary floor and Sharon's bittersweet humming. A beautiful cheery melody but in a sinister situation.
Again Dex saw the blackness creeping over his eyes "no please no not now" he pleaded with himself.
His attention we shifted back to the situation at hand when the elevator doors opened. He had lost count of the seconds and if there was a posting of what floor it was he couldn't see it.
As Sharon pulled him out of the elevator all he could see what doors. A long hallway full of doors. Each door had a rectangular slot in the center and huge bolt locks along with a keypad.
A man approached from seemingly nowhere and began speaking with Sharon.
"I don't have anymore subjects registered to be confined in solitary Shar." He said sounding annoyed
"I know Tom but Lisa told me to bring this one here because containment is apparently closed off right now and we've got to put him somewhere."
"Why didn't you just let him go? You can always catch a new subject to replace him once containment is reopened."
"No you don't understand" as Sharon said this she grabbed Dex's broken wing sending an even more intense pain through him "I caught an angel."
"You're shitting me" Tom mumbled "w-what...how... Where did you find it?"
"He was nestled up in an abandoned city east of here a ways. Weird thing was it was just him. Not another living soul anywhere in the vicinity."
"Well anyways yeah I'll get him put away and have Jack register him and all that when he gets here. Bastards late again." As he said this he grabbed the bottom of the gurney and began to pull Dex away from the elevator and Sharon. Further away from home.
The man stopped in front of one of the doors for a moment and slid open the rectangular slot to peer inside. As he did so something on the other side of the door began growling and snarling like a cornered dog. The man chuckled and slid the cover back over the slot. As he did so whatever was inside began slamming it's body into the door.
The man that Sharon called Tom merely grabbed Dex's gurney and continued forward to the next door beside it. The slot was already open on this door.
Tom tugged this door open and pushed the gurney inside. The interior of this room was musty. The air was thick and heavy like breathing in ashes. Dex didn't get much time to look around before Tom prodded his neck with a syringe and his neck fell limp like a doll.
Once Dex was immobile Tom began unstrapping him from the gurney. When he had undone a the restraints he simply shoved Dex down onto the floor and walked out pulling the gurney behind him.
Before closing the door he came in one more time with something red in his hand. As he came closer Dex saw it was some sort of hospital style bracelet. Tom slid it onto Dex's wrist and walked out. The door locking behind him with a cold thunk.
