“Ally, come on. Let’s go play.” Alex took my hand, running into the backyard.

“But, it’s cold outside.” I pouted.

            “So?”

Snow had started falling all around us, it was so pretty. She stuck out her tongue, trying to catch the little flakes.

            “The snow…it’s so pretty.”

I reached out to touch it, but the snow melted in my fingers. I frowned, looking up at Alex, but she as nowhere to be seen.

            “Alex? Alex? Where are you?”

            “I’m over here silly.”

She bounded over to me from behind a tree, carrying some kind of material.

“Look, I found this over there.”

I took it from her, looking at it.

“It’s so pretty. What is it?”

            “I’m not sure, Ally.”

“ALLY! ALEX! COME ON GIRLS WE’RE HEADING TO CHURCH!”

            “COMING MOTHER!” we chorused.

We raced into the house, only to be greeted by mother and father. They both smiled at Alex; then scowled at me.

            “Where is your coat Ally?”

            “I-I-I—“

“It’s my fault mother; I got excited when I saw the snow and dragged Ally out here. Don’t be mad at her, please?”

            Mom’s glance went to Alex.

“It’s ok Alex.” Mom smiled at her, grabbing her hand.

This was typical. Mom pretty much didn’t think I existed. I didn’t really care. I could live by myself. I had Alex…right?

I curled up in a ball as I tried to fall asleep, I felt Alex climb into bed beside me; kissing my cheek.

“You ok sissy?”

“Yeah, I’m ok Alex.”

Her eyes were watching me, trying to find out what I was hiding from her. She did this all the time. She knew Mommy hurt me.

“Ally, I know you’re not ok. I’m not dumb.” She said hugging me.

“It’s ok Alex.”

“No it’s not. You’re crying again Ally.”

She handed me a tissue, wiping off a couple tears. She kissed my cheek again, trying to calm me down. It was working a little, but not enough to make me stop crying.

“Mommy…she told me she was going to take you away from me, Alex.”

“Mommy wouldn’t do that, she loves us. Have you seen the way she’s smiled at us?—“

“At you?”

Alex looked at me, shocked that I would say something like that.

“Mommy loves you, doesn’t she?”

“No.”

There was an awkward silence in the room as we looked into each other’s eyes. She broke the gaze, looking for something.

“Did you lose something sissy?” I asked.

“Uhh, yeah…wait never mind I found it.”

She pulled out a locket, a silver one. She clasped it around my neck. She giggled.

“Alex, where did you get this?”

“Mommy gave it to me, but I didn’t want it. So I put a picture of us in it and gave to you.”

Her eyes lit up, I loved seeing Alex like this. She looked so pretty. It’s hard to believe she was my sister. If only I was as pretty as she was. Every boy at church loved her...that’s why I always ran away from church. That way I wouldn’t get hurt.

“Alex…sweetheart can you come here?”

We both looked up as mother walked in. She ignored my gaze and continued looking at Alex.

“What’s wrong mother?”

“We have to take Ally away from here.”

“Why?”

“Because, you’re going to do some training that Ally isn’t allowed to see or be a part of.”

“No, I don’t want to.”

“WELL THAT’S TO BAD! YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!”

She grabbed Alex by the arm, dragging her out of the room.

“ALLY! ALLY!”

I heard her cry my name, but I felt so useless. Mother came back in the room, but Alex was nowhere in sight. I was scared.

“Come on little girl. You’re coming with me,”

She grabbed my arm, dragging me out of the bed into the night. I kicked and screamed, only to be smacked across the face.

“Shut up.” She growled at me.

I woke up in a blanket of the white fluffy stuff Alex had called snow…but snow…wasn’t red. Someone was walking towards me. I didn’t know the face of the person that is trying to make contact with me.

“Hello, don’t struggle. I just…WANT A TASTE OF YOUR BLOOD!”

The man’s eyes went red, and he bared fangs at me. I got up, trying to run away. But the snow made it hard for me to run. I stumbled; falling to what I thought was my death. I closed my eyes, waiting for his fangs to sink into my throat, when I heard a blood curdling scream.

Another man had come, and punched the vampire through the chest; ripping his heart out. I was scared, there was so much blood. He looked down at me, with a frown on his face.

“Are you ok?”

I looked up at him; his eyes were watching me closely. He reached down, showing me that he wouldn’t hurt me. I took his hand…not sure what else to do. I was still scared, even as the body of the demon slowing turned into ashes; blowing away in the soft breeze.

“My name is Ace…it’s nice to meet you.”
