We drove up to this restaurant. It was called Benihana, it looked pretty fancy. It even had valet parking; I mean what can be fancier than that. We walked in and they seated us with six other strangers. There was this big grill right in front of us. The waitress came. Matt ordered the Hibachi steak, with fried rice, and a glass of water. I’ve never been here before so I asked for the same. A few minutes later, a man with a chef hat came out with a large cart. In the large cart were various ingredients and meats. “Hello my name is David and I will be your chef today.” He handed us two different sauces. “The red one is for your vegetables and the other for your steak.” Matt explained to me. I nodded my head in understanding. The chef started cooking the rice first. He threw some chicken ad cut it into small pieces. He let them cook on the side. He then put white rice on the grill then some vegetables and he poured some soy sauce and other stuff. He mixed the rice and shaped it into a heart. “For the lovely couple.” The chef said putting the rice into small bowls. After that he cooked vegetables and he even made a small onion volcano, everyone at the table laughed. He did more tricks and cooked our food. It was really cool. Finally our food was served and we could start eating. We talked as we ate and right before we left; a girl about 11 years old came up to Matt. “Matt Hunter! Can I have a picture and your autograph.” She asked. “Sure sweetheart.” He smiled for the picture and knelt down to sign a small paper. “What’s your name?” he asked. “Lilia.” She grinned. “A pretty name, for a pretty girl.” He hugged her and waved goodbye. I stood there puzzled. “I’ll explain later.” Matt chuckled when he saw my eyebrows raised in confusion.
We arrived at his house. When we got in I sat on the couch. He sat down next to me. “So, basically I’m a Latin popstar.” He cuts straight to the point. “Pshh yeah, and I’m Angelina Jolie.” I say sarcastically. I didn’t really believe him. “I am, I became famous when I was thirteen.” I was known practically worldwide when I was sixteen.” He went on about how he got started, his childhood, his family, and things like that. “So I’m in a house with a celebrity?” “I guess.” He chuckles. He told me how and why his parents split up, and about how he felt when that happened. We got to know each other. He asked about me. He asked about my family and how I became homeless. I didn’t want to tell him. “Um, I was in foster care and my time was up, and I had no job, no money, and I lived on the streets for about 11 months.” I didn’t tell him the whole truth. “Oh. I’m sorry.” Matt said. “Don’t be. It’s my fault.” “No it’s not your fault, none of this is your fault okay.” He hugs me and kisses my forehead. “Everything happens for a reason. What you went through made you the beautiful, strong, down to earth, independent young lady that you are now. Stay this way okay.” He lifted my chin and wiped a small tear that escaped from my eyes. “Thank you.” I say nodding my head. He hugged me one more time, and we went to our rooms.
He made me feel worth a million dollars, when I felt like dirt. I loved that about him.
We both made our ways to our room.
-Matt’s POV-
I layed in my bed…just thinking. Delaney has been through a lot. I could tell she has been hurt by so many people, just by the way she carried herself. She had scars on her neck. I didn’t ask why. I felt like she would have told me if she wanted to, but maybe I should just leave it alone. I remember driving by her on the street, her messy hair, her dirty knees, those beautiful blue eyes. It’s like she has this hold on me, and I can’t let her go. She has a hard time trusting people, and opening up to them. I can tell she wasn’t completely honest with me. I need to be careful though, she’s just starting to trust me and I really don’t want to lose that.
Sunday morning. I looked at my phone and saw that today was Theo’s party at the office. It started at 5:30p.m. It was only noon so we had a few hours to ourselves. I check up on Delaney. I knock on her door. “Come in.” I hear her say. I see her snuggled up in the blankets, a book in her hand (as always) and her hair up in a messy bun. “Good morning.” She smiles at me. She was always so cute in the morning. “Good Morning bookworm,” I playfully tease. “My buddy Theo is having a birthday party, I just wanted to know if you wanted to go. It’s at 5:30 so we have few hours.” “Sure, I do need to get out more I guess.” She said nodding her head. “Okay, well I’m going for a run right now, do you want to come?” “Yeah, let me get ready.” “Okay I will get ready too.” I close the door and head for the room. About 10 minutes later, I go downstairs to grab some water bottles. I hear her coming down the stairs. She comes to the kitchen “Ready to go?” “Yup.” I say handing her the water bottle. We walk to the park which is a block away. “Race you around the park.” “Get ready to eat my dust.” She glares at me. Yikes. “GO!” she yells. I sprint head, she’s at least 7 feet behind. I turn and see her jogging calmly. I laugh and keep on running. I’m halfway of the park. It becomes harder for me to breathe. I didn’t see Delaney anywhere, so I sat down for a couple minutes. As I was sitting down minding my own business, I see Delaney run by. I almost didn’t recognize her because of how fast she was going. I try catching up, but it’s not gonna work. She is too far ahead. I decide to jog the rest of the way. As I was jogging I see Delaney sitting by the lake. “Hey, what happened?” I yell. She turns to me “I felt really bad for you so I quit.” I shake my head “I could’ve caught up.” “Suuuure.” She said sarcastically.
-Delaney’s POV-
He sat next to me breathing heavily. “Are you okay?” I tease him. I give Matt my water bottle. We sat by the lake watching the people feeding the ducks. “Do you miss them?” he asks. “Who?” “Your parents?” I sigh. “I do, I just wish they didn’t do the things they did.”The tears welled up in my eyes. “Like what?” I suddenly became angry. This rage was built up in me as I remembered my childhood. “Why the hell do you even care, it’s my business so stay out of it!” I stormed off, and walked back to the house. Matt followed behind, but he kept his distance, which was a smart move considering my behavior.
I shook the door handle. “Why won’t this stupid door open!? Ugh!” Matt came from behind me, “Uhh maybe because it’s locked.”He chuckled. He inserted the key, and opened the door. I stormed up to my room. I laid face down on my bed. I tried to hold back my tears, but that was impossible when I remembered my childhood, and recalled how horrible I was to Matt. I hear the door creak open, but my face remains on my pillow. I feel the bed sink in and a large hand on my back. “I’m sorry, I know your childhood must have been hard but-” “No, I’m sorry Matt. All I have done since I’ve been here is treat you like crap. I should be the one apologizing.” I say lifting my head to face him. “You’ve done everything for me, and thank you.” I lay my face back down on my pillow. “I’m so sorry.” I mumbled once more into my pillow. Matt said nothing, all he did was lay next to me and held me tight. He played with my hair and rubbed my back to calm me down. He did this until we both fell asleep.
