The bright lights welcomed my eyes in the hospital room. I squinted for a while until I got used to the brightness.
"How are you feeling, Samantha?" A soothing voice came from my right side. I looked up and found a beautiful doctor checking my IV.
"I'm good," I mumbled. She pulled a chair next to my bed and sat down. She was truly beautiful. She couldn't be older than thirty.
"I'm doctor Akimoto. You have fainted and your friends brought you here." I was just staring at her without saying a word. "You have a case of malnutrition, and it is very dangerous especially in your condition."
"My condition?" I finally spoke.
"Your pregnancy," she stated calmly. I felt a shiver run through my back.
'My what?' My lips couldn't form the right words to ask the doctor.
"You need to eat better, Samantha," Doctor Akimoto resumed. "You also need to avoid stress, it's not good for you nor for the baby."
There it was again. She had said something strange again. 'Baby?' My brain cells were frying one by one, trying to fathom the situation I was in. I had tuned the doctor out until she captured my attention again.
"... I also told your guardian."
"My guardian?" I asked.
"Yes, Ichihara Kei."
"Where is he?" I instantly asked.
"He said he had to go, but your friends are outside."
"He had to go." I felt a knot in my stomach but I ignored it.
"Would you like me to call them in?"
"When can I leave doctor?" I asked, ignoring her question.
"Actually, you can leave anytime you want."
"Like now?" She was a little shocked but then she smiled.
"Sure."
The doctor helped me take the IV out and walked me to the hallway.
"Take care of yourself, Samantha," she said before leaving me all alone in the hallway.
I rushed to the nearest bathroom and washed my face a few times. I looked in the mirror at my reflection.
"What the hell am I going to do?" I asked my scared reflection who seemed to not have an answer either.
When I finally found the courage to get out of the bathroom, I looked for my friends and found them sitting in the waiting area. Yoko saw me first and ran to me, taking me in her arms.
"Oh my God Sam, you scared us. Are you feeling ok? What happened? What did the doctor say?"
"Shh..." I said as I hugged her back. "I'm ok, it was just some malnutrition crap. It's not a big deal."
"Well obviously it is since you fainted." Jiro came to stand next to us.
"I promise, I'm fine. Let's go home, shall we?" Jiro pressed his lips together but didn't say anything.
On the way to the house, I made Jiro promise not to tell his parents about my fainting. He accepted reluctantly.
"You've got to take care of your health, Sam."
"I promise I will."
We finally got home. It was nine thirty. Kei's shoes weren't there, so I figured he wasn't home yet.
'He probably ran as far away from me as he could. What do you do when you find out you're going to have a baby?'
"Hey guys," Amanda greeted us in the living room. "Are you hungry?"
