Sometimes
your heart can't comprehend
what your mind understands

“Noctis.” the sound of your lovers name escaped your lips in the sound of a whimper. Burying your face to you knees, you clenched your eyes shut in an attempt to escape this atrocity that surrounded you. “Save me.”

“Sweetheart, everything is going to be okay.” you felt a comforting hand land on your arm, causing you to look up to see the face of a middle aged woman looking back at you with a small smile. You didn’t know her,but in this time where your life was at risk, even strangers became your friends. Everyone did everything they could to ensure that no one get left behind. Though her words were reassuring, you could see the fear she held in her eyes, Even she was trying to convince herself that everything was going to be okay, but in reality it was far from it.

Suddenly, you heard the voices of those around you murmuring words you’d never think you’d hear again.

“Is that the Prince?”

“I thought he was dead.” more whispered sounded.

“[Name]!”

Your eyes enlarged from hearing that familiar voice, causing you to raise your head from your knees. It can’t be...

“[Name]!” the voice yelled out again, this time sounding more alive than ever.

Slowly you whipped your head to the direction of where the voice was coming from. Searching through the crowd your eyes landed on a familiar face standing not far in front of you. It was then when he turned his head to meet yours, your breath hitched. No, it can’t be, he was dead. You were dreaming, it had to be a dream. Your mind was playing games, it wasn’t real, you were getting delusional. However, your body thought otherwise. Slowly, you raised yourself from the ground, and began walking towards him, yours knees shaking with every step. It wasn’t long until your steps quickened and soon, you found yourself running, your legs burned as they carried you with the little energy they had left. Everything around you blurred into a mess until the only thing you could see was the young Prince standing before you.  Just as you were about to reach out to him, they finally gave way, and you found yourself stumbling over your feet. However before you were able to hit the ground, sturdy arms caught your falling form.

Turning your head up, your eyes instantly met his blue ones. Your heart stopped. “N-Noctis…” your voice trembled as his name made it past your lips. “Is it really—”

However before you could finish your sentence, Noctis pulled you closer to him, wrapping his arms around your form. His embrace was
tight, enveloping you with the warmth you dearly missed as he held you. With trembling arms you snaked them under his arms and clutched onto his back. The wall you were trying to build around your emotions was eroding away, brick by brick until the first tear of many began to fall. The sobs were stifled at first, until the emotions became too much to contain, and soon you let out a loud wail. You couldn’t keep your tears silent anymore.

“N-Noctis.” you sobbed, burying your face deeper into his shoulder.

Noctis tightened his hold on your quaking body, shaken by not just the racking sobs, but from being broken, mentally and emotionally. The sound of your sobs broke his heart, filling his own eyes with tears from the unleashing anguish and sorrow. Such sound would never leave his mind or heart, and nothing will be able to heal the trauma that has been inflicted on you by the empire. But you were alive and finally here in his arms.

“[Name].” your name sounded past his lips in a whisper. “I’m here, I’m here [Name].”

“Am I dreaming?” you pulled away, looking back up at the Prince. “Are you really alive?”
