Life At A Stand-Still

Chapter 11

The two teams collided in the center of the giant room.

"Lily!" Noklar shouted. Lily looked over at him and covered her ears, seeing the glint of metal in his hand.

Noklar blew into the whistle and put it back at his side. Lily uncovered her ears and continued fighting.

Turns out, doing that was a bad idea.

No one noticed, but Caleb snuck away halfway through the battle.

Lily had been going around saving everyone, Steve from a hypnosis, Kyle from a stab, until a horrible sound reached her ears.

She collapsed to the ground, holding her ears. The three enemies took advantage of this opportunity. Aaron hypnotized Thor, Logan, and Tony to sleep, Caleb knocked out Steve and Natasha from behind, and John teleported behind Clint and Bruce and knocked them out.

They were about to go for the rest, but stopped when they snapped out of their daze, instead deciding to retreat with the unconscious Avengers.

"No!" Lily yelled.

Lily, Kyle, and Noklar stood in shock. Hornrush just stood.

"JARVIS, can you track them?" Kyle asked after a few seconds.

"Yes I can, Mr. Wright. Mr. Stark implanted a tracking device in his watch. I should have their coordinates within the hour." JARVIS replied.

"Thank you." Lily said quietly.

"No problem, Ms. Everlast." The AI responded.

"Hey, Lil, what's wrong?" Noklar asked. Lily sighed.

"This is all my fault." She began. "If I had never blabbed about the chip or spray, if I had never invented the chip or spray, heck, if I had never gone to work with Cory that one day!" Lily finished by throwing her hands up in the air.

"Lily." Kyle walked over to his best friend and set a hand on her shoulder. "Think about all the good things that happened. If you never went with your brother, you would have never met Noklar, Maddie, Logan, John, or any of the Avengers. You probably would have never come to Manhatten. And, you would probably be dead."

Lily chuckled. "Yeah. I guess."

Kyle smiled. "Now, let's get ready to get our friends back, Qbert." He said, using Lily's old nickname.

"Alright, Firebird." Lily smirked.

"Hey, what about me?" Noklar stuck his bottom lip out in a fake pout.

"Fine. Torpal." Lily laughed.

"Torpal?" Kyle asked.

"Hey! I mispronounced it!" Lily defended herself.

"Sure."

"Excuse me, Miss, but I have found the location of Mr. Stark." JARVIS inturupted.

"Great! Pull it up, please." Lily exclaimed.

JARVIS pulled up a map of Manhattan, a bright red glowing dot slowly moving across the screen.

"Great! There he is!" Noklar shouted happily.

All of a sudden, the light went out.

"Wait, where did it go?" Kyle asked.

"It seems that the people who took Mr. Stark have destroyed his tracking device." JARVIS replied.

"Send me the last known coordinates." Lily commanded, whipping out her cell phone and opening her GPS app.

When JARVIS sent her the coordinates, Lily typed them into the GPS.

"Alright. I got it." Lily shut her phone off. "Now we just need to get ready."

"Ok. So we have three pairs of reflective sunglasses, a can of non-toxic spray paint, and a few pairs of handcuffs. Are we missing anything?" Lily asked.

"Earmuffs!" Noklar exclaimed.

"Oh yes. Then we should also get some com links." Lily nodded.

"I'll get them!" Kyle sprinted to the elevator. He returned a few minutes later with a pair of earmuffs and some com links.

"Alright. Let's go then." Lily put all of the things in a bag.

"Why can't I just teleport us there?" Noklar asked.

"Because it's better if we scope out the area from above first." Lily answered.

Noklar huffed and crossed his arms. Lily laughed and slipped her hilt into it's holder.

"Let's go." Lily climbed onto Kyle's back, handing the bag off to Noklar.

Kyle and Noklar walked to the hole in the wall and jumped. Lily squeezed her eyes shut, and when she opened them again, they were flying. Lily looked down at the city.

"Wow." She breathed.

"Now that we're up here, where do we go?" Kyle asked. Lily took out her phone and looked at the coordinates.

"East three miles, then north five." She said. Kyle nodded and set off east.

After a while, they arrived at the destination.

"There! I see something!" Noklar yelled and pointed. They flew to where Noklar pointed. They landed about a block away.

"Ok. Battle plan. I'll go in and draw their attention. Noklar, you teleport and attack them from behind. Kyle, you get everyone free." Lily explained. She handed out the com links and put her own in her ear, before slipping the earmuffs on.

"Ready?" She asked after both her friends had activated the com links.

"Ready." The two boys replied.

Lily nodded and they all ran to Aaron and Caleb's base.
