Lorie:
Tonight was incredible. Kameron and I actually had fun together. We went to the movies then to get some icecream. Never once did he bring up my body and why I left. My parents are probably looking for me. Like that would ever happen. They probably threw a party.
I didn't even notice that I unlocked the door until Samantha jumps on me and knocks us both down.
"Wow, for a pregnant person you sure know how to jump," I say. She laughs and it's then that I notice she's been crying.
"Thank God you're ok," she says, still holding on to me. I push her off slightly then get off the floor and I help her up.
"Why wouldn't I be OK?" I ask, confused. She doesn't answer, instead dragging me over to the TV. It's turned to the local news and she turns up the volume so we can hear the report.
"Earlier tonight, a girl was drugged and raped. She is a minor and because of this, her name cannot be released. We have no major details but we do know that she was taken from her room and found lying in her backyard. She is currently at Mercy West Hospital and in a current condition-
There is only one suspect at this time. Kameron Matthews. Back to you Matt."
I felt like my world was spinning. I put one hand out to grab onto something stable. I reached for Samantha's hand before I drop to the ground.
Kameron didn't do it. I know he didn't. He couldn't have done it. I keep thinking it over and over. I start sobbing uncontrollably and have no intention to stop.
At that same moment, Ted walks in through the door. He sees me and Samantha on the floor and rushes over to comfort us. He gives Samantha a confused look. She gives him a look that says she'll explain later.
So we all just sit there as I cry. How can this be. The one guy I start to get close to turns out to be a rapist.
Kameron:
I slowly go to sit down while keeping my eyes on the officer. There's something about being around guns that makes me queasy.
"Hello, I'm Officer Brown. I would like to ask you a few questions," I nod my head, telling him to continue; "Do you know Alexis Martinez?" He begins.
"Yes." I answer.
"Were you planning to meet her?"
"Yes."
"Did you rape her?" That one caught me off guard, I'd gotten into tune with just answering yes and that was what my answer was going to be. Until the question actually registered in my head. This is news to me. Alexis was raped?
"She was raped?" I ask, this time saying it instead of just thinking.
"Yes Mr. Matthews; I just said that," Officer Brown says.
"But how can she get raped. Her legs spread so easy, you'd be thinking I can't believe it's not butter," I say. Every knows that girl has been around town and in the cities too.
"This is not a joking matter," the officer says, not amused.
"Who said I was joking," I say, seriously. I can see him pull out his handcuffs.
"If you didn't meet with Alexis, where we're you?"
"I went to see a movie then got ice cream with this girl." It feels weird referring to her as 'this girl' when she seems like so much more than that.
"Is there anyone who can corroborate your story?"
"Yeah the girl I was with."
"Name please?"
"Lorie Daniels."
"Address?"
"1083 Washington condominium Apt 13." I answer, recalling dropping her off as she gave me the directions.
"Thank you, that will be all." The officer walks over to me with the handcuffs still in hand.
"What are you doing with those?" I ask, nervous.
"It's just protocol that I take you down to the precinct," he explains.
"We can go without the handcuffs," I say. He just shrugs and puts them away. He walks over to the door and waits for me to follow. I give my mother a quick hug and nod toward my dad. I follow the officer out and into the cruiser. Never in my life did I think my life would come to this.
Lorie:
After I'm done bawling my eyes out, I go to my room and lay down. I go over the night's events in my mind.
"So, what movie do you want to go at?" Kameron asked.
"Before we get ahead of ourselves, let's get this straight," I said,"I trusted you with secrets no one else knows, then you just dissed me."
"Look Lorie, I'm sorry. You know some of my secrets, too. So, can we please stop being mad at each other?"
"Mr. Popularity worried his secrets are going to come out?" I said, teasing.
He chuckled a little as he said "I ain't got no worries."
That was the start of our wonderful night.
A knock on the door jars me out of my thoughts.
"Is there a Lorie Daniels here?" A gruff voice asks when Sam answers the door.
"Yes, she's right here." I hear footsteps and then they're both standing right in front of me.
The officer introduces himself then pulls out a seat from my desk.
"May I ask you a few questions?" The officer asks. I slowly nod my head. "Were you with Kameron Matthews earlier tonight between the times of 8 to 10 p.m.?" I nod in response. "He says you went to a movie, did you keep the ticket stub?"
I nod again. I start searching through my purse for the stub. "Crap, I left it in his car."
Kameron:
After my dad picked me up from the station, I called Lorie.
"Hello?" She answered after the third ring.
"Lorie, it's me Kameron and before you hang up, hear me out," I say quickly.
"Why would I want to hear what a rapist has to say?!" She shouts at me.
"I didn't do it and I want you to help me prove it." I tell her. I hear her sigh and I know she gave in.
