Dan sat on the tile of the bathroom at school. The bell had just rung. He knew he had some time before his parents actually remembered to pick him up.
Dan took a long drag as he turned on his hearing aids. A large puff of smoke came from his lips and he threw himself spread-eagle in the middle of the bathroom.
The world seemed much more happy and Dan felt like a normal high schooler. Dan hummed and waved his arms about, as if conducting an orchestra.
"Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" Dan's singing was a tiny bit better than last time, but still bad.
"I'l be a second, i just need to go to the bathroom," Someone right outside the door yelled to someone else.
The boy walked inside and paused, he recognized the man on the floor from his math class but has never heard him talk, let alone sing. "Um, are you okay?"
The man sat up from where he was laying. "Hello!" The word seemed awkward on his lips. "What's your name?" The volume of his voiced changed as he spoke.
"Barry." Barry said, eyeing the thing in the man's hand. "What's your name?"
"Danny..." Dan mumbles and trails off, laying on his side and curling into a ball. He inhaled again from his blunt and a big white puff of smoke emerged from his lips again, giving the bathroom a weird smell.
"What are you doing?" Barry wasn't the most experienced when it came to drugs so he had no idea what Danny was doing.
Dan, by this point already, was tired of listening. He turned off his hearing aids and hummed loudly, liking the vibrations on his lips.
"Danny?" Barry repeated for at least the tenth time. Barry huffed and walked over, grabbing the drugs from Danny's hand and throwing them in the trashcan. Danny just let it happen, he was too tired to care.
"Leigh!" A woman called from right outside the bathroom where Barry's friend was standing. Barry was just about to ask who the woman was calling when Danny stood up and stumbled over to her. Barry wondered how Danny heard her, but was quickly given the answer when she started yelling to him about some therapy and he didn't even move and that Danny was probably just aware of her presence and knew it was time to go.
Barry suddenly remembered he needed to go to the bathroom and went, joining his friend outside quickly after.
"Who was that?" Said his friend, pointing to the slouched over, stumbling Danny next to the woman.
"It's the deaf kid from our math class."
"Oh," said Barry's friend. They both walked to Barry's house deep in thought.
