Dan sat in the back of the English class, legs in ripped jeans splayed over his desk.
He was busy watching someone, not the teacher, and not listening.
He watched as the person was also not paying attention to the teacher, focusing more on a paper instead. He watched their hair fall many times from the tucked position behind their hair, them finally getting annoyed enough and tying it back in a bun.
He watched their pencil move furiously across the paper, though at times moving slowly and gracefully, carefully mapping out the next position it's going to be.
He watched their head move side to side as they searched for a new angle or deciding what to add next.
He watched a kid lean over and point to something on the paper, moving his lips, apparently talking to the person.
They nodded and moved their pencil on the paper to where the kid pointed.
The kid moved their lips again, sticking his hand out, probably introducing himself, Dan realized.
They took another paper and scribbled quickly on it, handing it to the kid as a form of communication.
Dan watched as another person leaned over the kid, hitting him on the arm and pointing to the front of the class where the teacher was talking. The kid gave a smile to the person with the paper and turned to the front.
Though, several times the kid leaned over and pointed to some things on their paper and they would change it.
As the bell rung and he saw the flood of students leave, Dan stood up, holding his leather jacket with one hand over his shoulder. Instead of walking to the door, he took long strides to the person, still cleaning up at their desk. He set his jacket on the desk beside him and tapped the person on their shoulder, talking to them with his hands.
Hello Arin
Arin's eyes widened and he quickly stuffed the piece of paper he was scribbling on in his pocket. His cheeks were tainted red. Oh, hello there Danny.
How are you? Dan already hated the conversation they were having, it was so awkward. Dan longed for the types of conversation as their first one was.
Good, your concert was awesome by the way. Arin gave a smile and Dan could tell he also felt the awkwardness.
Dan was tainted his own shade of red but had a proud smile on his face. Really? I didn't see you there. Dan did see Arin there. He saw him right in the front row, clapping along and looking very happy. He saw him outside, planted to another's. Dan didn't know he had a boyfriend.
An awkward silence fell between them.
I want to hang out more. Dan couldn't hold it inside anymore, Dan missed Arin and their short friendship. He liked hanging out with him.
Arin gave Dan a small smile and nodded. Me too. Arin stood up - finished with putting his things away - and Dan threw his arms around him, missing the way Arin's heart starting beating faster than normal. Dan pulled away and by that time Arin was breathless.
Suddenly Jon was in the doorway, "Arin, you coming? We are going to your place."
Arin gave a final smile to Dan - who hasn't noticed Jon - and then walked off, Jon slipping his hand into Arin's. Danny stood there for minutes after, deep in thought.
Dan didn't hear the teacher's requests for him to leave.
