Imagine going on a 'friend' date with Barry.
"And you're absolutely sure that the doors between worlds can't be reopened?" Barry asked her, running a hand through his hair in stress.
"Yes, now stop stressing Barry. We're supposed to be having fun." She said motioning to the restaurant around them, they'd decided to go on a friend date to distract themselves from everything that was going on for the night. "No more talk of saving the world okay?"
Barry shook his head smiling. "Sorry it's just hard to separate my life from The Flash these days." He said honestly, knowing the girl across from him would understand.
A comfortable silence settles between the two as they ate their food, sending each other small smiles as they did so. Both trying to remind themselves this was a friend date and to push their feeling aside. They were both hopelessly oblivious to the mutual feelings between them.
"So, I have to ask." She said, holding a glass of wine in one hand. "I know you're not allowed to tell us much but what was I like on Earth 2?" She grinned, curious as to what her alter ego could possibly be, Barry had told the others that their alter egos were almost polar opposites to their Earth 1 selves but he had yet to give her even the slightest hint as to what she'd been like, something that only sparked her curiosity more.
Barry froze remembering what she had been like on Earth 2. He'd kissed her, more than once. What was he supposed to say? I'm in love with you so I went to an alternate universe and made out with you and now we're on this date because it gave me hope you might return my feelings? No, he had to word this carefully, he wasn't going to lie to her either.
"Seductive." He started and nearly slapped himself, great start Barry. He tried to cover up his panic by taking a sip of his drink which just caused him to choke and make the whole thing worse. "But beautiful, fearless." He continued saying whatever words came to mind, he didn't realise he's started describing her as he saw her now rather than her Earth 2 duplicate though the words rang true for both.
"Did I seduce you?" She laughed, trying to cover her probing with a light hearted tone. She kind of hoped she had seduced him but then again she didn't want her Earth 2 duplicate having him if she couldn't...
Barry coughed trying to think of an answer to the question. He couldn't say no because then she'd think she was friend zoned, something he definitely didn't want to do to the only girl he'd ever liked this much except Iris and if he said yes that would just lead to an awkward conversation where she'd ask what had happened.
"Stupid question sorry. We're friends, like that would happen." She said trying to take use her drink to hide the disappointment on her face, it wouldn't be easy to explain why she was upset that he didn't have feelings for alternate universe her. "Was she prettier than me?" She asked, trying to distract him with a joking question, a bright smile forcing its way onto her face.
"I don't know, I think this you is much more beautiful." Barry said truthfully still trying to figure out if she'd just looked disheartened over his lack of response or if he was imagining it in a desperate attempt to find clues if the girl in front of him might see him as more than just her friend.
"She must've been a complete basket case then." She laughed, taking a bite of her food which was becoming increasingly cold as she was ignoring it, too caught up in the conversation.
"Don't say that." Barry frowned. "You're beautiful, I wouldn't be in love with you if you weren't." He uttered out, immediately regretting it. Not only had he just admitted to his feelings but he had done it in such a way that he sounded like a misogynist at the same time as complimenting her. He half considered using his speed to run out of the restaurant and avoid her for as long as possible afterwards.
"What did you just say?" She whispered, her wine glass poised for a sip that she wasn't taking as she'd frozen in place the second the word's had left Barry's mouth.
"I said I was in love with you, maybe ignore the misogynistic part." Barry said deciding that it was far too late to back out, he'd said it now, and it was easier just to play it through. At least this way she wouldn't hate him like she would if he ran away now.
"No I heard you I just- Really?" She said, lowering her wine glass slowly trying her hardest not to break eye contact with the brown haired boy, no matter how much she wanted to keep her eyes down and run as far from here as she could. There was no way he liked her let alone loved her.
"You really didn't know?" Barry said slowly, unsure of what to do next. She shook her head, hoping Barry would keep talking as she couldn't think of any actual words to say. "I can't tell how you're feeling right now." He said, trying to hint her into bringing some expression onto her completely blanked face, the only emotion he could read being startled.
She took her hand away from the stem of her wine glass and took the napkin from her lap and placed it on the table, pushing her chair out to stand up. Barry's eyes widened, she was going to walk out on him, and he knew she didn't feel the same but he hadn't expected anything this extreme. Instead of turning her back on him she walked closer to him and he stood up not entirely sure what was happening. He was half expecting her to slap him by this point.
"I knew I shouldn't have told you, please don't walk out. " He started, surprised how clear the desperation was in his voice.
And then her lips were on his, her hands were around his neck and his hands were on her waist and they were kissing. He couldn't help but think this was so much better than the chaste kisses he'd shared with her doppelganger on Earth 2 and then wanted to slap himself for thinking about Earth 2 when he had the real version right here in his arms. Her lips were soft against his and his heart was beating out of his chest because here she was, after all this time, in his arms. They broke apart as quickly as they had come together and Barry ignored the disappointment it was over so soon as he smiled at her broadly.
"I guess that means this is a little more than a friend date right?" Barry chuckled, not taking his hands from her waist, not wanting her to step away from his body. "Wait do I have to pay bill now if this is a date?" He added making her laugh.
