The creature is laughing. It knows that once again, the boy is trapped. He still doesn’t understand that there is no were to run, no one to get help from. He is alone and he is meant to die.
This time it takes its time before killing him. It’s enjoying slowly torturing him with its claws. He cuts the fair boy’s exposed skin over and over as he screams in agony. The boy is cursed.
No one can save him.
Daniel wakes in screams of pain and desperation. His night terrors are getting worse. His curse is killing him.
"Hey! Good morning!" says the always happy Jamie
"Hi." replies Daniel. He doesn’t feel like pretending all is ok, he knows it isn’t. He’s too tired today to put up the act.
"Gay!"
"Fag!"
"Homo!"
Scream the monsters. They bully. They laugh.
Daniel wants to run, but he knows there’s no place to go. Besides, the bell is about to ring.
"Don’t listen to them. They’re just immature." Says Jamie, in an attempt to cheer him up. It doesn’t work.
They say it because it’s true. Daniel can’t help but think.
He’s reading one of his books at home, when the shadows start screaming insults at him. He is so tired of their little game that he gets up and screams:
"GET THE HELL OUT MY ROOM! LEAVE ME ALONE!"
"We. Can’t. We. Are. Inside. You. We. Are. You. Daniel." Screams the darkness
Daniel runs out into the hallway. There has to be a way to escape the creatures. There has to be a way to make them stop.
Then a thought appears in his mind. Maybe it’s the curse that implanted it there; maybe it’s what they want. But he has no other choice. It’s the only way to find peace.
Daniel runs to the kitchen and gets the knife. It’s his savior. It’s his liberator.
He slashes it across his bare skin, over and over again as the creature’s teeth bite into his skin.
The cursed boy, the night’s child, is free.
