It was 2 months since we were not talking to each other like we used to do before. We had not seen each other for a while, and I thought that I would never get Iris back in my life. I still loved her, I still had the same care for her and I knew that I always would. I literally started cursing myself for letting this happen. I decided to go to her and apologize. The chances of her forgiving me were pretty low, because we had many arguments and I was low on confidence now. It took a lot of courage, but I somehow managed to gather it and went to confront her. I told her everything that was on my mind and apologized for whatever had happened between us in the recent past.
I apologized, and what Iris did in return made me love her even more. She understood everything that was going on with me. She forgived me and even apologized in return, and there were no chances of me not forgiving her, because it was never her fault. I realized how fucking lucky I was to have such a friend who cares about you no matter how many hard times you both have been through, who always sticks by your side when you're low.
Time passed by, we were best friends now and I didn't want to lose Iris' friendship, again. I always had this fear of losing her and this fear made me lie to her that I'm finally over her, that I don't love her anymore. I lied to her, but deep down maybe she knew that I was still in love with her. I tried to make her believe that I moved on in every possible way I could. I no longer did the things which people do in front of their crush like feeling shy or being quite. I thought this is the best way of ensuring that this friendship never ends because the last time when I told her that I love her, the consequences were catastrophic and I didn't want the past to be repeated.
I made it a secret crush again, I wasn't happy from within but I tried making her happy as much as I could because that's what made me happy too. Seeing a smile on Iris' face was the best thing for me. I continued lying to her, but one day, I had to tell Iris that I still loved her and requested her not to leave. She said that she won't leave, and it was great to hear that from her. I told her and we were still best friends, we used to talk and meet daily, act like crazy psychopaths and do many more shits like that. Our friendship was getting stronger day by day and unlike many others, if ever a misunderstanding occured between us, we solved it without arguing or fighting because we both hated arguing with each other. Thanks to Iris, I came to know the real definition of a best friend.
People might think that this is a happy ending but I'm still broken from inside because I know the fact that she won't ever be mine. I still feel sad whenever this realization strikes me. It feels like I'm never ever gonna be happy again but then I don't want Iris to blame herself for the mess I've created for myself. So I just keep these feelings hidden inside me and enjoy all the moments that I get to spend with her because the moments spent with her are the best of my life and I'd give up anything to spend even a few moments with her. I suppose this is what is called a FAULTY DESTINY.
