===============================================================
When I first met Eidel, I had been wandering around outside, trying to enjoy some quiet time away from technology. So to speak. Specifically, it was during the eighth grade when I was, more or less, disillusioned by the technology of today.
... Then again, I'm not sure "disillusioned" is the right word. To put it simply, it seemed to make daily life far too easy: We can be at a store or a restaurant within minutes, if not seconds, and we would never be required to personally drive. Almost anywhere, a computer can be accessed through the use of Hard-Light Screens. A person's Visual allows anyone to see the world however they want to. The Aptitude System makes it simple for a person to determine where they would be most likely to succeed, where their abilities would be best put to use. Even now, there's talk of a new system that could make schooling itself obsolete. But I digress.
The topic for today is a diary of sorts. Then again, it isn't so much a diary as it is a recollection of past events. No matter the specifics, either works well for what I'm trying to do: Tell a short something about the past. My main goal is primarily to create an example from which I could create potential scenes should the need arise. In summary, a preemptive simulation of thought processes. As expected, this wouldn't be the first time I've written something like this, but I rarely use a physical example or actual event. Most of the time, I just develop logic-based recreations about what might occur if the character was in that situation. This time is different of course.
I was sitting at a table in the Lysithea Park. I remember it specifically because it was, to me, a park in name as well as content. I liked to have my Visual off: As a result, I saw everything in their base, white-washed state. For the Visual system, lighter colors are the easiest colors to augment into the desired result, with white as the apex of those colors. Because of this, almost everything is "white-washed" in color. Greenery, however, is often an exception because of its organic nature. Consequently, while the entire city was colorless except for white, the Lysithea Park was a striking exception.
He approached me, and sat next to me. For a time, he didn't talk, and neither did I. Eventually, however, he opened up the conversation with a comment that he saw me on the news some time ago. He remembered my face as a chance remembrance, that he saw my face as one of the victims of a terrorist attack, as shown on the news. He was in the building next door when it happened.
Eventually our conversation drifted to education. After learning that he was in the same grade as me, he commented that I seemed unusually young to be going into his grade. I responded that, while I was only one year younger than normal and that he was exaggerating, I actually was physically young for my age, in a sense of the term: After the terrorist attack, I had to undergo a Neurological Rollback because of the toxins I was victim to during the attack. The Neurological Rollback was assessed to have spanned two years, and the accompanying Biological Rollback reversed my age by the same amount. I then retook the two years of schooling that I was enjoined to retake, completing them both in one year.
When I said this, the most bewildered and fascinated expression swept across his face, and he focused on that topic for the rest of the day. Of course, by the time that I actually got to see him again in High School-
