It was lunch time, and I sat down at the table next to Lindsay with Clark sitting across from us, looking grumpy. It could be from either the fact that Lindsay stole his spot where he usually sits (since we sit at the end of our group’s table) or the fact that I was actually going out on a date with Keith. I’m guessing that it was the latter though.

“So, after school I’m coming over to your house to help you pick something out to wear on your date,” Lindsay said excitedly while squeezing my arm.

“Have fun deciding on something without me then, because I won’t be going home after school,” I said sarcastically.

“Why not?” Lindsay asked confused while pouting her lip.

“Well, Keith thought that it would be fun to text me during classes today,” I said while rolling my eyes.

“I don’t see what the big deal is. Unless you… wait, please don’t let it concern the evil teacher that has no mercy,” she said while putting her face in her hands.

“Exactly,” I said bitterly. “He texted me while I was in class with Briggs. He even knew it too, because we’re in the same class. But I wouldn’t have got caught if his text didn’t make me laugh,” I said shaking my head.

“How did it make you laugh?” Clark asked curiously, coming into the conversation for the first time that day.

“He sent me the word… spoon,” I said with the straightest face that I could manage.

There was a slight pause before all of us started to laugh. People from surrounding tables were looking at us as if we were crazy, while our own group of friends looked curious as to why we were laughing so hard.

“Seriously,” I said while trying to calm down. “Who in the world sends the word ‘spoon’ in a text? It’s not like the word is even funny. But it was just so random that I had to laugh. I couldn’t help myself.”

“I probably would have laughed if I got the text to,” Lindsay said through giggles.

“But the best thing is that Keith also got a detention,” I said while smirking.

“Keith got a detention too? How?” Clark asked suspiciously.

“Well, right after Mr. Briggs took my phone, he warned the rest of the class that they shouldn’t have their phones out. But when he looked over at Keith, there he was playing with his phone for everyone to see. I think that he got a detention on purpose,” I said thoughtfully.

“Well, it serves him right for getting you in trouble,” Lindsay said defiantly.

“He’s such an idiot. I still don’t see why you’re going on a date with him,” Clark mumbled to himself while laying his head on the table.

“Well, he knows about my family,” I said defensively.

Immediately Clark bolted and sat upright in his seat, while Lindsay just looked back and forth between us curiously.

“Please don’t tell me that he used that to get you to go on a date with him,” Clark said while closing his eyes and clenching his fists, trying to control his temper.

“I still don’t get it!” Lindsay whined, feeling left out. “I mean, seriously! Why is Clark getting so freaked out about something that Keith knows! I’m one of your best friends, and I deserve the right to know!” she pouted.

“Fine,” I said as I motioned her closer to me. She eagerly scooted over, ready to be let in on what she thought was excitement. “The thing is… my family is really rich.”
