~ Jack's POV~
I stood at the front steps of the Dulaney High School mentally arguing with myself whether or not I was ready to face the school, and even more of an extent its students. I couldn't even think of my options anymore...I mean not that I had any. I'm here.
'Look on the brighter side Jacky' My subconscious spoke, 'It's better then your last school isn't it?'
My head was right. I don't think I'd ever wish upon anyone what happened back at that place. Confession time...
I was that kid. The one you'd see walking down the halls with their head down, and happiness all gone, avoiding eye contact with anything moving or breathing.
Yes, I had been the one to get picked on by the jocks and shunned by all the girls. Not that I minded, I didn't really 'swing' that way either.
Maybe you'd think about talking to me. He couldn't possibly be that horrible right?
I ask this constantly to myself but why didn't you?
Had I honestly been some monster...
I fucken hated them. Even now I still resented them for making my memories a thing of pain, though at the very least I hadn't been alone. Friendless..yes, but not alone. They knew me..its better then being discovered a freak amongst strangers I guess.
A bell rang, like always I was late. So much for my plan or arriving semi-early
and slipping into whatever first period class I had today.
A blonde in a blouse two sizes to small that practically screamed 'DTF' was the first thing I saw upon entering the main office.
I told her my name and was handed a schedule and a map of the school, with a late pass. After like five minutes of wandering aimlessly around I finally found my first class of the day, math.. how fun, especially because I'm such a genius at the subject, my thoughts were practically oozing sarcasm at this point.
I walked in and placed the tardy slip on the teachers desk, all the while his eyes scanned me head-to-toe with a bored expression. I stood at the side of his desk rather awkwardly and just sorta hoped he'd catch my drift when I gave him a questioning look.
Miraculously the middle aged man rose from his seat and cleared his throat to get the attention of the twenty-something students already staring at me.
Nice.
"Class we have a new student joining us today..uh introduce yourself?" why it sounded more like a question then a statement I'll never know.. but I still tried hard to keep the blush that made its way to my cheeks at bay, to no avail I cleared my throat ,"Uh, my names Jack Barakat.."
I trailed off towards the end seeing that half the class had erupted into a series giggles and whispers.
The teacher I had come to learn as Mr. Michaelis told me to take a seat in the back because it was the only available seat, not that I was complaining.
The first few classes past quickly and before I knew it, it was time for lunch. I felt the all too familiar bubbling in my stomach as my eyes scanned the crowded cafeteria for a place to sit. Empty seat at one of the back tables. I slowly walked up to the three boys who looked about my age.
"Mind if it sit?" I asked, half expecting a punch the the face but instead received a warm smile from all three boys, which I happily returned.
I sat down next to the muscular boy with fluffy brown hair. "So what's your name?" asked the boy next to me while biting into an apple. "Jack..Barakat" I replied with a small smile and light blush. "That baldie Right there is the infamous Rian Dawson, that weirdo infront of you is the one and only Matt Flyzick, and I, supreme ruler of dorks, Zack Merrick,'' he finished with a small laugh while the others just smiled and even I couldn't resist the chuckle the escaped my mouth.
We talked about just any and every stupid subject there is, we even exchanged phone numbers. It felt really good...to finally have friends, and to actually feel like you just might belong.
Funny, it turned out we all shared the same classes. School suddenly didn't seem like it would be all that terrible.
