Tom's POV
The room was still black, still night. I looked down to my lap
"Carl?"
He's gone, I stand up, the room is just the darkness now, nothing but darkness
"Carl! CARL!"
"He's gone, Tom"
"Who said that?!"
I looked around but there was nothing, just darkness
"You killed them, Tom"
"Who?!"
"Your family. You killed them"
"NO! no I didn't"
"Are you so arrogant that you can't even see your own faults"
"WHO ARE YOU?!"
"You already know. I was there, the day Knightdale fell"
A figure emerged from the shadows, it was a man, he was tall, dark brown hair. No. It can't be.
"When YOU DESTROYED EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING WE WORKED SO HARD TO BUILD"
"Richard?"
"ALL THOSE PEOPLE, INOCENT PEOPLE. YOU KILLED THEM. YOU"
"NO, I didn't!"
He walked forward, standing infront of me
"You can't protect them, you can't protect, him. Eventually your misguided views will get them killed. Exactly how it happened before, you'll kill them, you won't think you did,
but....you did""You're WRONG. I'll keep them safe, I'll keep HIM safe"
"You can't run from your demons forever. Eventually they'll catch up to you"
He leaned forward so that now he was eye level with me
"And. They'll. Take. You're. Precious. Little. Carl. Away."
The darkness surrounded me
I opened my eyes, immediately looking down, finding Carl still there, in my lap
You're safe, I'm going to make sure you stay that way
I looked back up, the room was still dark, this time there was a dim light shining through the window. I used my hand that was resting over Carl's waist to rub my eyes, they were wet.
I've been crying?
I quickly used the back of my hand to brush my face dry
It was just a dream
I felt Carl move slightly, I looked down and his eyes began to flicker open
"Tom?"
