Maya |

I didn't see him for the rest of the day. To be honest, after that panic in the shower, I felt drained. My limbs didn't want to move. It was even harder because he didn't go and get any breakfast so I had to climb up the trees.

Hours went by. I made breakfast, lunch and dinner by myself. For myself, really. My eye hurt so much and I knew for a fact that it would be black.

It was night. He hadn't returned.

Lucas |

I didn't know which direction to go. My arms were sore from trying to row. It was dark and I hadn't gotten very far, so I decided to turn back to the island. I expected Maya to be sitting on the beach, enjoying life like it was a vacation now that I was gone. But she wasn't. The campfire was lit still. Ew, campfires. Nothing romantic happens there.

Maya |

"Lucas!" I cried inside the cave I was sleeping in. Tears streaming down my cheeks, I made the sand wet. "Lucas! Come back! Please! I didn't mean what I said!" I lost all energy that was left and drifted off into a deep sleep.

I was suddenly awoken by an arm being put over me. I screamed. Well, tried to. Turns out I had lost my voice with all my shouting. Tears were still running down my cheeks.

"Shhhhhh... Shhhhhh..." It was Lucas, trying to calm me down. I was in such a terrible state I was practically hyperventilating. I literally couldn't breathe, which Lucas probably thought was brilliant because he could say his apology without being interrupted.

"I'm sorry, okay? I don't know what was wrong with me. I never should have tried to do that to you. I can't believe I did that. I am so so so so so sorry for punching you." Tears welled in his eyes. "After I punched you, I took the boat and tried to row far away from you, which was wrong. And Maya? I heard what you said before you fell asleep. About you loving me. And I love you too." I was practically hiccuping at this point.

I drifted off to sleep and never stirred.

Lucas |

How did I put Maya in such a state? Even though it was dark I could still make out the bruise around her eye. She fell asleep facing away from me, so I don't know if she was really asleep or she was faking. She never turned over the whole night like she usually did, but maybe she was just in a deep sleep. I never slept the whole night, so I went out to have a shower. After that, I hunted for breakfast. We were running out of stuff but I found some seeds so I planted them. By this time the sun was only rising. I made breakfast and set up an area to dine at instead of my the campfire. I went back to check on Maya. Still dead to the world. I turned to walk away, but I heard a voice behind me.

"Lucas? Come back... I miss you..." I started to hear her soft little snores so I went back to our breakfast area.

Maya |

I woke up later than usual. Lucas wasn't beside me. Did I imagine last night? Did he come back, or is he enjoying his new life without me? I stood up, bleary-eyed, and went and had a shower. I thought about how this was the last place I saw Lucas and I shuddered. Whilst washing my face, I forgot about my eye and the pain was as bad as child-birth. I tried to talk, but my voice was still gone. After that, I decided to go down to the beach and see if I could see him about. I had just stopped crying but it immediately started again when I saw him. I stood, frozen to the spot.

"Lucas?" I practically whispered. It hurt to speak, so I tried not to.

"I know this is not the best way to apologise, but at least it tried."

Lucas |

She just stood there crying. She clearly didn't have a voice so I tried not to ask questions because I saw her wince when she spoke. After breakfast, I literally repeated saying what I said last night. But I still had one more question for her.

"Maya... Do you love me?" I stared at her.

"I... I do." She nodded. I jumped up and ran over to hug her. "But... I can't just forgive you like that. You did punch me. How can I trust you again?"

And we kissed. Well, I pressed my lips to hers to start with. She looked surprised but eased into it.

"I am so sorry about what I tried to do. That's disgusting. And I'm also sorry about your eye. Look! I got these!" I held out some leaves, but she looked confused. "Here. Close your eye." She closed her bad eye but kept the good one open. I put the leaf against it because I read somewhere that they help to soothe pains. Obviously it was true, because she sighed happily and shut the other eye. I took it off after about 2 minutes and she mouthed thank you.

"You know that I love you, right? And I'm sorry for breaking your trust." She looked down at the ground and blushed. I guess we were alright for now.
